these aren't really custom sockets. they are a production socket found online.

Google

GEDORE 2225972 SOCKET 1/2" SHORT 22 MM 19 SK 22 and can be commonly found for $25 on tons of sites.

so much for no skin in the game.

Probably...one spends enough time searching the Internet and everything anyone sells can probably be found cheaper.
I just said I found a really trick tool,
and that I was just passing on what I paid for them, from my German tool guy, if anyone wanted one.

BTW...not sure what the "no skin in the game" reference you are using is supposed to mean.
Are you just trying to pick a fight?

no, just trying to define what no skin in the game means to you. Your 1st post in this thread states you have no skin in this game. no skin in the game would be posting about it and what it is and how to find it, not doubling the price like 928ms used to do on everything. And if you bought them at full retail from your tool guy in bulk, and resold them for the same price, well that's not very bright.

and your pic in the 1st post has 10 of these sockets strategically staged to not show the manufacturer or any info on it at all.

When I bought these, there was no one stocking them, in the US. (Not sure there is anyone now.)
I paid almost exactly $47.50, by the time my tool guy ordered them from his supplier, and they came from Germany.
I simply offered them, almost exactly at my cost, as a great tool, which worked fantastic, for others to have.

I did look at your link. Great price!
....But they don't have any and they have to come directly from the manufacturer.
Oops...maybe not as good a deal?
(I wonder what the end price will be, with shipping on one piece, from Germany?)

Thanks for your kind support, once again.
People, like you, really makes me want to help people.

I didn't post a link but there are vendors that have them in stock for those prices. You need to learn to read the room Greg. You are a business, and need to start acting like it. You are not here to play the victim, and act like you are doing everyone favors. you **** off quite a bit more people than your help, and everyone involved would be better off (you included) if you spent more time in your shop and less time on this board. If you are building a legacy for your family, as you say you are, you are personally destroying it with every other post. Offhand I can think of 5 or more people that you **** on every time they start a thread, and this place doesn't need that.

Sunex has a whole line of this type of tool and it's widely available but prices vary. I remember doing this job and not needing any special tools on my 86. I just used a 22mm sock and a 22mm box end on 1 fastener that was a slog. This tool may have made it quicker AND I'd rather have this impact rated socket for 1/3 the price, The Gedore item looks thin and flimsy like something a rooky mechanic would use.

Moving on....

For the Rennlisters who don't hate me and appreciate what I have to say and what I do to help, these "sockets" are the best tool we have found, for the task of removing upper control arm nuts (22mm) and upper bell housing bolts (19mm.)

By all means, buy them from the cheapest place you can find.
I'm sorry that I paid too much, for them, in 2019!
However, I can/will throw the remainder of what I bought (to help other 928 owners) in the trash...and never even blink an eye.

We also do use the 21mm×22mm "Mountain Ratcheting Wrench on one of the control arm nuts...but the socket is the "bomb" for the others.

The 17mmx19mm Mountain Ratcheting Wrench works great to turn these sockets (both 19mm and 22mm.) Sometimes one can remove the upper bell housing bolts with this tool, alone, however on super tight bolts (common) the socket tool improves the angle and eliminates chances of rounding off these bolts (which is a nightmare to deal with.)

Please note that when I first found these "socket" tools, I didn't bother offering the 17mmx19mm Mountain Wrench, as these were readily available on the Internet. The sockets were extremely difficult/impossible to find, in this country. (The 21mmx22mm Mountain Wrench is a more recent addition and did not exist, at that time.)

Good tools cost money and Gedore is cheaper than Hazet here in Germany. The best tools I can buy immediately when I have a task so it‘s fine Someone stocks them.
I‘m not sure if Greg earns one Dollar if he sent one to a customer. If the job takes 20-30 min the profit is gone and it‘s more a favor to the community.

My impression from Greg is he‘s helpful if an special problem occurs and he likes every 928 in good shape. So I keep my eyes open and learn and if I know something from interest I share it with the community.
So works a forum.
And if someone is telling you you doing it wrong it‘s bad for the ego but save a lot of time if you accept the advice.

Be proud to have such a great community, the German 928 forum has 5-10 % of the content per day as Rennlist.

That's probably not a good idea either. I would suggest you send them along in the box as gifts to your customers when they purchase something else of value, like a clutch, UCA bushings, shocks anything else you might sell so long as the customer is a DIY'er and might find it useful. You could even get out your tool engraver, initial them and send them off to your adoring fans on RL as a keep sake. Those are opportunities to build good will using slow moving stock for a very low price. Not doing things like that are common rooky business mistakes and are lost opportunities that can be avoided.

I grew up in a world where loyalty to someone who gave you advice or pointed out an easier way to do something was met with a bit of loyalty....or at the least, a bit of respect.
I've used two machine shops, in my entire life....because I trust them, appreciate their work, and respect them. I could care less about what they charge or if I can get the work done somewhere else.
And they knew/know this. When my current machine shop is backed up for 3 months (which they are), if I need something quickly, they will do it, for me.
They know that I will not abuse this....and I don't have to ask often, but sometimes I do....and they will get it done.

Years later, I still recommend that people check and see if 928 International has something first, instead of me selling them what they want.
That loyalty to Mark is my way of thanking him for all the customers he sent me, over the years.

I wouldn't consider changing my business, home, or auto insurance, regardless of how expensive it gets and how cheap others offer the same product.
I'm loyal to those people...and they know this and appreciate it. When my homeowner's insurance decided to cancel my insurance on a ranch house in the mountains (right in the middle of a California "fire zone" where every single neighbor for miles and miles around me got cancelled), my agent called up the underwriters and told them: "Not a chance we are cancelling this client."

I could go on and on, with these examples....dozens of them....but that is the way of old.
Loyalty and the rewards for loyalty.

By definition, that does not line my pockets with dollars, but that has never been one of my goals in life.
I could care less, but Bigfoot clearly thinks that I'm a dumba$$ for selling something for almost exactly the price I paid.
No one had these tools, at that time. (928 owners didn't have a clue.)
That was my choice and how I chose to get these great tools out to other 928 people......as a "service".
(Something that people apparently don't understand, today.)
I had no idea that I should have called Bigfoot and get his permission to do this, like I do, now.
So he could tell me how to live my life, run my business, and guarantee the future.
And so that I didn't end up being the "bad guy", like he is trying to picture me, here.

The world today, is filled with people are surfing the Web, looking for a particular product which they can get a tiny bit cheaper somewhere else...with no loyalty to anyone.
It will be a very interesting future, as people like me, are all gone and everything is completely dependent on price.
Not loyalty, not knowledge, not respect, not about giving advice, or making someone's life easier.

I guess that I'm supposed to apologize for knowing so much about these cars. (When I've been working on these cars since the very first model and almost exclusively for the past 15+ years.)
And knowing almost every "trick" there is.
Knowing what tools to use for what job.
And knowing what almost every single problem is or where to start looking for the solution.

I guess I'm supposed to apologize to the people who post absurd/downright stupid things and hate me, when I point out that they are doing something wrong. (Probably the 4 or 5 people who Bigfoot mentions.)
And apologize because their "feelings" get hurt, because they don't know what they are doing and are just too stupid to listen to/accept what they did wrong.

.....Probably not going to happen anytime soon.
.....Seems much simpler to not help and just become like almost everyone else....greedy and only concentrate on the almighty dollar.

I Bought one of these Mountain wrenches and the socket tool Greg was selling ,
I have done 3 sets of A arms in minimum time.
Those are the best tools I have .

Im glad Greg took the time to share his tricks of the trade to the DIY guys and other mechanics that populate this board,
so that we could also work with the least possible effort.

Being kind is a trait worth more than any amount that you might think you can save in any situation.
I am grateful for Greg's Kindness.
Pass it on !
