Figured as much. I'll inspect those closer at some point, but I'm less worried about them seeing that they're at least not 32 years old at this point.

Struck out at napa getting the power steering line rebuilt. There's a bridgestone hoes power downtown in Columbia that I'm gonna try tomorrow after work. Really don't want to have to spend $250 on a replacement line. Hell, replacements for my Durango are under $20.

 

See if there is a Pirtek or Lumpkin around. I had power steering, AC lines and oil cooler lines for my 90GT rebuilt for $340 for all 6 hoses. If that doesnt work let me know, I have an extra high pressure PS line and will let it go for $50 plus shipping as long as I can get your old one back so I can rebuild.

Looks like there is a pirtek, but it's a mobile only service, so probably more expensive. I'll give this place a try tomorrow, and then maybe see what pirtek says. If not I might need to take you up on that offer.

While I wait for the power steering line I figured I'd see if I'd get lucky and could get away with just some new boots on the upper balljoints.

And sadly it doesn't seem like I'm getting away with it. Parts of the (plastic?) cup were falling out. So guess I need some new control arms. A set of tubular control arms from Carl seems to be both an upgrade and cheaper than rebuilt stock ones, so guess that's probably the way to go.

 

FYI, We have rebuilt Upper Control Arms, IIRC $395 exchange?, not too far off the price of the steel arms. I have Zero experience with Carl's Steel arms so I can't comment which is better, but we know the stockers last pretty darn well.

Guess it depends what kind of shape the other side is in, but I have a feeling it probably ain't too far behind. I do want to ask Carl about future replacement balljoints and bushings before I commit to anything for sure though.

Do you know if it's possible to diy replace the balljoints in your rebuilt arms?

 

I am not aware of any user serviceable ball joint kits for the factory a-arms. There used to be replacement bushings available years ago, haven't seen any of those lately.

Got the new pressure line from Kevin on this week.

The only thing I found strange doing this job was the crush washer setup on the pump end. Between the bolt and banjo was a copper washer like both on the rack, but between the pump and banjo was a larger diameter aluminum washer. I replaced all the washers with new copper ones (14x18x1 I believe). I was assuming someone just messed with the pump in the past and changed the washer, but maybe I'm wrong?

Someone didn't have a copper crush washer and put the aluminum one in there to mess with your mind. Did it work?

Nah, I didn't think so since you put copper back in there.

 

Heh, I was figuring as much, but with this car who knows what they decided was necessary.

I only worked the steering with the front wheels off the ground to bleed the air out. It's been raining here constantly the past week and I'm still waiting on insurance (hopefully today) so that I can take it for a ride around the neighborhood and give it a shakedown.

 

Wow Matt, way to stick with it and get it back on the streets, kudos to you Sir and congrats!
