A bit late in the game, but what the hey....not *the* fastest I'd done in the old S4, but close enough. Don't always have the camera with me...;-) (Can't get the picture to show up in the preview - maybe it will in the actual post? - If not - how do I do that? Can't find clear instructions (to me) in the help section. EDIT: OK, it shows, nevermind, then)

Your steering wheel needed restitching, didn't it? Just teasing!

I'd love to take my shark on the Autobahn some time... Too bad I can't just take it with me when i go visit the family.

Funny thing is, though, that when i drive my Dad's BMTroubleYou, I could go fast but don't really do it. I don't think I've ever taken it further than 180 km/h. I used to squeeze the living hell out of my RX-7 when I still lived there, and when traffic allowed. Maybe I'm just getting old...

'92 S4 ZZZ on recent trip to Germany 274km/h on digital speedo.
'88 S4 JB0 the day after I bought it on lonely highway (just before I got that ticket) 160mph on speedo.
I guess it is fair to deduct at least 5% for reading error. Wheels and tires on both are original and new.

Be careful doing this stuff! And be sure your car is up to it, too.

Nicole - Yes, the steering wheel did need restitching. That's why I devised the cunning plan to have the car rear-ended at high speed on the Autobahn a short while later. The steering wheel is fine on the GTS.

A couple of years ago, I drove fom Petersberg, VA to South Hill, VA on I-85 South - a distance of 58 miles in 27 minutes. That's an average of 128.888 mph. I had to slow down to 80mph - 85mph to pass people and to avoid the occaisional "dead tire carcass" in the road. Once or twice I saw the speedo "flash" past 140mph. Now with close to 250,000 miles on the car, I rarely go over 120mph; but I'll pop off 100mph two or three times a week - just because I can.

I shipped my 1st 928, in 1978 to Honolulu in the cargo bay of a DC10 so I think it traveled approximatly 570 MPH.

Ah, but unless you were piloting the plane -- still a bit of a stretch -- that's OT.

Thilo: Did that happen on the Bodenseeautobahn near Böblingen, during a drive with other Porsche owners?

Correct, it has 255/40/17s on it, and not trying to BS you guys... it was about 38 degrees out, and it was on a tollway, that goes a little up and down, I mighta hit the peak going slightly downhill, but it isn't a huge drop... I just know the tach was at 6,900, and the speedo was about three or four notches past the end, which ia about 190... Dunno...

Intrepid:

I also shipped a new 911E to Honolulu by plane to insure it wouldn't get scratched or rusted or whatever other evil might befall it on a ship, only to have it completely totaled while stopped in Kahala at a stop sign by a thoroughly intoxicated Superior Court judge. He drove his Lincoln into the rear of my cherry 911 shortening it a few inches. He probably wondered what he hit he was so drunk. The car had about 200 miles on it at the time.

Nicole - a bit further south, but close enough. You may have read about it elsewhere.

That would make him a judge that couldn't pass a bar? ;-)

(Shame about your car, good you weren't hurt (I hope))

No I walked away without a scratch. But it took me one solid month of hassle to settle with the insurance company for a new car. When they wouldn't total it, I threatened to rent a new Mercedes until they did, and I got a check within a few days. There was no Porsche dealer in Hawaii at the time.

Ahhh! The thumb picture! I have that picture on my wall here at work. Bonus that I've actually met the man behind the Thumb.

How's Herr Stuck's former ride running Thilo?

My 88 S4 5-Spd passed emissions and safety inspection over the weekend. I am days away from getting it squared away for everyday use.

Hey J.E. - long time no talk.

Ever since I put on the Strosek RMB, the Stuck GTS is ripping *and* roaring...:-)

BTW, you've still got the license plate from the S4 coming to complement the pic on the wall. Had I known Graham was going to the Frenzy, I would have made him bring them (the other for jfk) there. Shoot me an e-mail with your address....
