On a positive note: I am VERY happy with how clean and original this panel is:

This was broken:

Installed the carpet dash cover that came with the car. Also painted & installed the rear view mirror:

I love this car but the smell in UNBEARABLY TOXIC. Some exhaust, but mostly FUEL SMELL. So bad. But where is it coming from? I have tightened the clamps & there is a bit of weepage from the round 5 bolt panel below. Should I just replace EVERY seal & hose & gasket. It's my new #1 complaint:

Finally removed the strut & the pin holders, also required loosening the hinge bolts. 924/944 right of passage I guess:

I don't know what to do about this... it smells like it's been soaked gasoline:

To remove the seat backs I had to remove 2 10mm bolts, no biggy, but will have to research the folding feature (if there is one):

My car came with a functional luggage cover:

Going to install this to reduce smell:

Typical water damage. Sad:

did it have this problem before you worked on the engine?
For the fumes problem look on the 924board. The rear hatch seal has to be fresh and hatch afjusted so that you cant pull a paper trapped between the seal and the hatch.

Also, replace that gasket for the fuel level sender. That's what I've read is a common offender.

"necessity is the mother of invention"

I bought metal reinforce gasket material for an exhaust gasket I need to make. And a cork gasket material and a third, much harder material that is fuel proof.

Sorry for the low grade **** but it's all I got. Small water pump hose from the engine. The one on Gramps is way too soft. Fortunately Porsche Germany had it. Also Gramps' AFM gasket is visibly squished & in gross shape, so got a new one.... but the grail of parts.... the 4 SPEED SHIFTER BOOT! I can't believe they were able to get this for me. Seriously Porsche, you can only get 1 out of 11 fuel tank related seals, but you can get me a brand new shifter boot for the 4 speed? Truth is stranger than fiction!

The good news is I was able to replace my sending units o-ring with a 944 balance shaft o-ring (lathered in Hi Tack spray-a-gasket).

The bad news is Gramp's rear seat and some of the carpet smell of gas. There is no saving interior pieces after they've been gas soaked, is there?

A match will take care of the smell.........

I dunno man, gas is one of those hard things to get rid of. As I'm sure you know from rags and jeans that get soaked in it. I can normally get the gas smell out if I wash them a couple of time. or get it weak enough to not be terribly noticeable. But in seat foam..... I'm thinking that's going to be a ruff one.

But if it was just like a smell it picked up, and didn't get soaked in it.... maybe time and summer heat will bake it out? I would think gas itself would eat the foam of a seat, like melt it. Ever put gas in a styrofoam cup?? So maybe it's just a smell it picked up... and can lose again....

Direct sunlight can work wonders for smelly furniture, maybe would help here. Another thing you could try is charcoal, idk if it has to be activated charcoal or not.

Sprinkle baking soda all over it?

Or whatever this website suggests (Vinegar and baking soda combo)
