$40 is too much, I'd be interested at a lower price.

Default Feeler - Producing clear turn signals / other clear parts at REASONABLE prices

Greetings Rennlist,

I plan on getting into plastic casting as a side hobby this summer, something to do in my spare time. I recently bought a pair of clear turn signals for my 944, and was wondering why they are so expensive... It got me thinking.

I'll likely be making clear plastic 944 parts this summer. I plan on starting out with something relatively small and easy, so the first products I'll make are NA clear front turn signals.

Ever wanted clear turn signals but didn't want to pay $80 for them? This will be your chance.

The plan is to sell pairs of turn signals for $40+shipping. They will be cast with an optically clear urethane that is hard and UV resistant. These will be practically identical to the other ones on the market.

Before I invest more time researching and contacting suppliers, I need to know if there's a decent base of people who'd buy a reasonably priced pair of clear turn signals. Of course, I would track all progress in this thread as I go. If I epic-fail, you'll know. If more people want a different product, I'd consider starting out with that.

My goal is to get a list of 20 people that would purchase a set of awesome clear turn signals from me for $40. If you are interested, please vote in the poll above.

PS: If there are any other small clear plastic pieces you'd rather see me make, please comment below. Some ideas I've been tossing around are
-fog light lenses
-that late AC control panel clear face plate
-side markers

Thanks!

Pic of my car for reference, also see signature.

I think $40 is a great price... Count me in for a pair!

Have you thought about doing the rears as well? They were a major PITA to install but I think I'd certainly buy another pair if I didn't have to pay that $90 again!

+1 and the AC clear panel, I'd order three of those right now. Doubt there is an undamaged one of those on any of our cars.

I was thinking about it. It's a larger piece but if my first jobs go well we'll see!

If I were to make one of those, somebody would have to supply me a perfect one to make a mold from haha

What do you intend to make a mold with?
Silicone is probably the easiest mold to make, and the urethane will peel off it easily, but it isn't super cheap.

Silicon is the plan. Vacuum degasing and pressure curing is also in the plan (but might not be necessary)

Yes mr Lart, but would you sell just the clear plastic off those...and refund if the 25yo brittle clear plastic breaks the first time you try to bolt it in place?

Fabbing something is a whole other level of work and time, compared to molding copies...
