Default Removing cam tower what tool?

Ok i'm about to remove my cam tower. However I can't get to the bolts under the cam cover top. My Allen head socket tool is too wide to fit in the hole, is there another tool or one I need to fabricate one? I have a standard Aallen head wrench that I can cut one leg off but I don't know if it will be strong enough or if it will damage the bolt below.

The correct tool is in your tool kit, I use a real long 3/8" drive Hazet that fits in the hole.

Also brake tools will work, basically Allen wrenches on a socket

+1 I used the factory allen key for this. Just put a box end of a wrench over the short end for more leverage.

You are going to need something else to put them back if you want to use a torque wrench though. I use long craftsman allen sockets for that. I wouldn't trust them for breaking the bolts loose because they have a ball on the end that doesn't grip all that well, but they're fine for reinstallation.

If you need to purchase the long allen socket make sure you buy a quality tool, you do not want to cheap out on this otherwise you will introduce other problems.

There are no torque specs specifically listed for the cam tower. Not in FSM or the tech spec book. Just FYI.

So what should I torque them to then? The bottom bolts didn't seem to tight when I broke them loose.

I've since purchased 6" long allen key sockets, but for a long time I used to use a homemade version of the same thing. Cut the L off a quality hardened allen key and then put the cut end in a standard 6mm hex socket. Use at least a 3/8" drive socket, or better a 1/2" drive for more control. Torque to 15 ft. lbs.

Whoops, I meant sequence. That's right, there was a spec but no sequence. Nevermind, my bad.

I'm assuming starting in the center and working outwards would be fine.
