As always, don't forget to strike the allen key with a hammer lightly when it is inside the cap. I like to turn slightly to tighten them before loosening. Just very slightly, and if it doesn't give don't force it. I find that the heads stay cleaner and generally "pops" them loose better when a little tightening force is applied first.

Ok I found the Porsche tool in the tool bag in the car. The thing is the rubber piece on the end has to be forced in the block to get to the bolts. Is this normal?

Also when I go to install the bolts in the cam head back how do you install them without the washer falling off as you put them back in?

The heat shrink tube shrinks over the magnets. (I know, I didn't see it the first time either.)

Just use some grease to make the washer stick to the bolt, it doesn't take much.

If you use the factory bolts, the washers are trapped any won't come off the bolts. +1 on Snap-On

After reading the article it seems I need new camshaft housing bolts. How important is this aspect?

Bolts stretch. Bolts that are stretched have imprecise fastening force. Fastening force must be equal across the tower or you will have leaks.

You may hit it dead right with old bolts, you may not.

Well I've broke all the bolts loose. Now I'm reading to see the best way to get the head off without dropping lifters. I'm hoping I can remove all but two lower bolts, back them almost all the way out, take out the inside bolts completely and tilt he head outward towards the fender then slip something underneath to stop the lifters from falling out. At least that's the plan, I have no idea if it will work.

Also I've read the new gasket must mate to dry surfaces, but if the lifters have been soaking in oil before sticking them back in won't they drip oil on he gasket when you go to put in?
