If you didnt own a Porsche...
Good afternoon gentlemen,
Greetings from Michigan. I figured its been to long since I trolled the forums, so I thought it would be nice to make you all think a little. Take the given scenario and answer the following question.
The average 951 costs $6,000-$12,000
An average owner will spend $2,000-$7,000 modifying and maintaining a 951 in a relatively short amount of time.
If you had $8,000-$19,000, what kind of sports car would you purchase?... Lets spice this up a little... The car has to be NON PORSCHE!

Non Porsche?
Don't hate me, but one idea that comes to mind is a C5 Corvette. Hard to beat the hp/lb per $$ there.
I also wouldn't mind having a MB AMG car like an E55 or original CLK55.
If we stretch the price range upwards a bit (and pretend that maintenance costs don't exist), I have seen 02-04 Maserati Cambiocorsa coupes for sale in the low $20s...that looks like it would be fun.

Its funny you say that... Because I bought my Procharged C5 in this price range.
I really like the CLK55 too!!!

That's a hard one... I've had quite a few other cars, and have had the pleasure/luck of driving a lot more. Honestly, most other cars really make me appreciate the 951 more. I owned an E39 M5 for a few years, and it was nice, and pretty freakin' fast... But I'd still rather drive my 951.
That said, If I had to choose, I think I'd probably have to say a Factory 5 replica of a Shelby Daytona Coupe: https://www.factoryfive.com/kits/typ.../complete-kit/ It's a little more than the budget, but we're dreaming here, right?

I'd probably build up a an old BMW "Big 6" streetable race car like a 635CSi or M6 of the same vintage as our cars. They look cool and go better when they're well sorted.
I also have a soft spot for well sorted out Z3M coupes. Wouldn't mind one of those. I'd definitely consider an FD RX7 as well. Those things are cool.
I already know if I had that sort of dough I'd end up with a 911, haha...

I was very close to ending up with a JPS BMW 635CSi instead of my 944.

considering 944 turbos in Australia are priced from 15-30k and going with the mods you mentioned so 37k max I'd buy a 2007 Ford FPV typhoon and spend a few K on mods and end up with ~400rwkw (~540 rwhp)

I think about this every once in a while when I'm buying things for my car and see how much cheaper parts are for other cars that make the same performance. Not the best feeling but I guess having something unique on the road is a small bonus.
I've always wanted a i6 m3

As I always say, "If I had all the money I spent on cars, I'd spend it on cars"
I have had 17 Datsun Z cars, and I would buy another in a heartbeat. Cool lines, smooth 6cyl, put on a set of triple weber carbs that provide a menacing snarl, legendary handling and a racing history that put most cars to shame. Though I'd keep a few thousand dollars back so I can fight the rust battle.. No corrosion protection on those old girls...

I've always had a soft spot for notchback fox body mustangs. I am currently searching for something like this. I've gotta hurry up though.....wife is due in April and she may not like me buying more cars and toys! haha
