Probably be more into Jaguars. Maybe an new F-type as a daily driver XJ13 kit as a project. Though likely be in a Mazda series on the track for economics.

I've always wanted to build one of these and go historic racing:

Thanks! I've always been a fan of the bigger BMW coupes...I especially love the lack of a b pillar with all 4 Windows being able to roll down. I've owned an e21 and e30, and driven my brother in law's heavily modified '72 2002 tii...great drivers cars, but as you probably know, once you go Porsche it's really hard to be satisfied with anything else. I'd love the older esprit with either a newer turbo 4 or like I've seen on one car, an Audi v8. I need some crazy in my life.

Nice. Had a couple of e21's and an e34 myself. My last e21 was actually M20B25 powered. I think that point you make about b-pillars is quite true - a great detail on the 8-series cars.

Thought long and hard about the Esprit before going for the 944 but reliability horror stories are far too common, and the car is just really really tiny!

I'm also a former e21 ower (I regret getting rid of it) but it doesn't get much better than this:

I went out and tried to snap a few for you...bear with me though...my car is in a tiny one car garage with horrible lighting. Also my car has been under the knife for a long time undergoing a v8 swap so it's a little dirty...I'm waiting on parts to reassemble some things, so I have to put them somewhere lol

Also, the Recaro seats bolted up directly to the 944 seat rails, but I had to add 1" spacers so the seats would sit up high enough to tighten the bolts down to the floor pan and to make use of the lever to slide them. They still sit pretty low but it's good for me because the steering wheel no longer hits my knees. The best part about them...I paid $20 each at a pick and pull junk yard. I also got the lsd off of it and sent it to my brother in law with the 2002tii...$60. He got the old 5 speed out of my e21 too.

Anyone who has sat in these seats knows how killer they actually are and why they command a $400+ price tag. Extendable leg supports too....just lovely.

No need to apologize about the garage. I've been there. I finally got a nice workspace. I can't wait to get it painted and hang some extra lighting.

Pretty cool those seats bolted right in, I've sat in them and they are great.

I'd probably have a BMW Z3 M Coupe or Roadster, or maybe (less likely) something GM like a C4 or C5 Corvette or Trans Am. Nothing really has the combination of speed, build quality, style, and history as a Porsche....not counting Ferrari and other exotics. But, I suppose that budget might get you into a 4 cylinder Lotus Esprit Turbo from the early 90's so I'd have to put that on my list.

If I went the "softer" gentleman's route, I'd maybe go for a 560sl/Euro 500SL from the 1980's, or a late model Jaguar XJS.
