Texas: All of those cars are great. But they are all over $18,000.
My pick would be an Alfa Romeo Spyder for under $18,000. For over 18,000 I like all of your picks, Texas.

You don't say! I posted before reading responses!
My personal experience has me lusting after another 951. I think it's just a car that is so vastly dynamic that there isn't much else that can compare without sacrificing in one area or another. Porsche just got the formula right. But that's where I have to commend BMW. They got the M5 right too. Now I HAVE brought this up with my friends. They all LOVE the M5 and say there's no way the Porsche was better. The only one that understands is my girlfriend. She's a 928 owner on here... She understands!
On ANY day, if someone came up to me and offered a trade, straight up, between my BMW any my 951 (in the condition I originally got it in). I'd have to waive bye to the M5. BUT... It treats me right. It is different, but the perfect compliment to any garage, in the same respect that the 951 is. By the way, I paid $15k for my M5. It's been great on Maintenance and I have had a GREAT relationship with it.

I think that speaks volumes that two people who have owned what is widely considered to be one of the best cars ever made, would pass it up for a well-sorted 951.
I bought my M5 for about $15k also. It was a great car, only ate my wallet a couple of times, and was truly an awesome car. I really wish I still had it, but in the choice between it and my 951, the 951 will win every time.

I'd probably build up a an old BMW "Big 6" streetable race car like a 635CSi or M6 of the same vintage as our cars. They look cool and go better when they're well sorted.
I also have a soft spot for well sorted out Z3M coupes. Wouldn't mind one of those. I'd definitely consider an FD RX7 as well. Those things are cool.
I already know if I had that sort of dough I'd end up with a 911, haha...

Race prepped Triumph TR6 maybe. The non-Porsche clause pretty well wipes out 99% of my choices!
Only because I can't afford a RCR replica Lola T70 Spyder on that budget.

isn't the 944 a VW/Audi variant where they borrowed a 928 motor from Porsche and took a sawzall to it ?
i thought Porsche eventually bought the S2 and re-designed some of it; and dabbled with the resulting car for a couple of years.

968: borrowed VW/Audi hobby car.
used 944/968: kit car.
