I've seen an early car get below 2100, NA, lexan rear hatch, with a cage. He took every stitch of wiring out, blasted the chassis and cut off anything that wasn't necessary.

Mine is at 2250 and I have left a lot of stuff on it, most of which is needed to stay class legal. I saved 50 pounds just by taking out the factory wiring.

One of the reasons I'm doing this is to see how light I can get the car. Running a 944S in SP3 at 2550 pounds just sounds awfully appealing, especially since I have a bunch of extra engine stuff, including 2.5L 16V, laying around. I doubt I'll get there, but I'll see how close I get. I think I'll still end up being 100 pounds heavy.
My GTS3 car's race weight was 2506, and I weigh 175 with gear; so the car was 2,331.

Alternator cut through the wiring harness, so that is now gone. Interior wiring is the same way, I pulled the wires out at the fittings into the fusebox. I had done that to the interior harnesses, though. Fans weigh a TON, they'll be gone. As my car sat, it had the lexan hatch, no interior, a fiberglass dash, no AC stuff, no headlamp stuff. Changes from that point will be no front end harness (headlamp and related), fibgerglass fenders and hood (potentially header panel and bumper cover), lexan windshield, no fans, and another 7-8 pounds from front wiring. I'm guessing that may get me another 125-150 pounds. I am wondering how much the difference b/t a 16V and the turbo engine is (I assume the 16V is lighter due to mag intake, no turbo or intercooler).

Now I just wish I had the motor to keep up with you down the back straight!!

Then I'd need big Hoosier tires, more suspension....oh wait I had one of those, ex wife took that one

Can't wait for Watkins Glen this year.....

As for fans.....
I put mine on dash switches 3 years ago to control them, at the same time put in a turbo radiator. In three years, I've turned the fans on one time in the pits when the temp got to about 210. Don't know that I'd feel comfortable not having them just in case but never use'em.

Funny, Hal and I were just talking about this a day or two ago. ON a prior car, I ran this really slim, lightweight fan that used something like zip ties through the fins of the radiator to hold it in place. MUCH lighter. If I end up needing to add fans, I'll do something like that. The lack of a shroud should help airflow while in motion, too. Of course, part of the reason is that my fans were destroyed.

I was chasing Axel Shields around that day - the 911 in front. Going to the uphill turn there was a huge puddle of water that lasted for 50+ feet. You would have to brake before the puddle, hydoplane across the puddle, then at the last minute, you would get grip and turn uphill. If I remember they ended the race early.

Dude, I like the helmet in your profile picture thing! Looks sweet. Also, I hate Ohio State. Ever since 2002 against Miami, took out Dorsey and McGahee lol.

Not a track car, but to stay relevant to the thread: My stock '86 at AutoX. I really need to fix that...

A little sideways too:

New fiberglas stuff?

Yeah, glass bumper cover and nose panel. There's new Mocal oil cooler under there someplace. Suppose to have a fiberglass hood coming. Last I heard, a Greyhound ran off with it. (Lost in transit) How do you loose a hood?
