Here is my "track car" although not exactly a road-course car, it does see a lot of track time!

And here is a Real track car that I helped build for a customer in south FL. Original car was an 86 951, the new chassis is an EARLY 85 car, with the complete drivetrain and suspension swapped over.

Here's a picture of the old car at Sebring.

Swapping everything from the old wrecked chassis into the new chassis.

first day headed to Sebring with the new chassis!

new chassis on the track! Looks just like the old one.

Was a bummer to see that #28 car in the wall at Road Atlanta, glad it was rebuilt.

this is a pretty cool thread, the different designs of each car is the best part, close to stock, full out tribute colors, and anything else in there.

It was tough, but the new chassis is way lighter and stronger than the old one!

PS - I love seeing your car roar around the track! I think I saw it most recently at Barber in Nov or Dec. That thing hauls ***!

How much lighter? I saw an early one listed at 2100 pounds empty, and I was wondering how.

By the way, if it makes you feel any better, here's mine after Road Atlanta had its way with it a few weeks ago:

And yes, rebuild has already started. Was about 2625 pounds before, will be adding all fiberglass up front, and lexan windshield.

Is that legal in SP3 or are you changing to GT class?

Thanks, finally managed to get my dual-master brake system working correctly and shaved 0.5 seconds off of my personal best at Barber this past weekend; finally into the 39's and headed for 38's

Wow, that looks like my old car leaving RA years ago. For me it was the outside wall at T5

9.5 Body/Interior/Exterior
A. Non-stock mirrors.
B. Aftermarket rocker panels are allowed.
C. Lexan windshield, quarter windows and hatch are permitted.
D. Parking brake lever, cables and associated parts may be removed.
E. Front fenders, doors, engine hood, headlamp covers can be replaced with identical parts of size and
shape made of non-stock materials
. Gaps around the headlight covers be taped over and/or
permanently filled in with body putty and/or similar materials. Fenders can be flared front and rear.
F. Spoilers and air dams are free. Stock bumpers may be modified or replaced with non OEM material,
providing that they are not relocated.
G. Removal of the car interior, A/C and heating system, head lamps and related parts is allowed.
H. Ducting of exterior body panels and lexan windows for additional cooling provided it does not change
size and shape of factory panels.
I. Rear wing with a single plane may be added. The maximum wing height can be no greater then
level with the top of the roof. The stock spoiler and the hatch rubber side trim can be removed.
J. Door handles can be deleted and handle pockets in door filled.
K. Modifications to the underside of the car for the purpose of improving aero effects are not allowed. The
factory splash guard located under the engine may be used or deleted. Alternatively a replica in an
alternate material may be used that extends from the front of the car back to the front edge of the front
wheel opening.

They same size and shape thing has been in place a while. The flares are new, and frankly I don't like that. Seems to be moving more towards a GT class car, whereas almost all of the other mods were appealing because they allowed one to simplify the car relative to a stock class (i.e. removal of more interior, wiring, headlamp stuff, etc.), or replace some expensive components with fiberglass ones. The fenders only save about 10 pounds each, probably would be a lot less if one took the time to remove the undercoating, but I found a second hand set for less than I would have paid for a set of metal fenders. The hood can be a lot of weight if you just run a skin. At the end of the day, I'll be paying less for Lexan and some fiberglass components than I would be paying for used OEM ones. I'll pay more for the hood, and I'm not sure about the front cover (friend has a mold, so it may be less, too).

One of the reasons I'm doing this is to see how light I can get the car. Running a 944S in SP3 at 2550 pounds just sounds awfully appealing, especially since I have a bunch of extra engine stuff, including 2.5L 16V, laying around. I doubt I'll get there, but I'll see how close I get. I think I'll still end up being 100 pounds heavy.
