I have a spare set of fenders in the event I ever want to go back to stock but I like the 90MM H9 Hella's. The light output is a huge improvement over stock and the 45lbs of weight off the nose of the car is a plus.

Had a solid lifter, 3/4 grind cam, Quadra jet fed 442 back in my youth, what a sound it made. Girls always wanted to cruise. My bud's LS3 makes the same kinda music. Who says you can't go back?

Alright, buy an aluminum truck motor and convert it to a flat plane crank. You can even toss 32v heads on it. 10k for such a project would be easy and that will fix your "oh I am so sick of the American V8 sound". Also, last time I checked, sound is only a small bit of what the conversion provides. The performance and reliability factor is higher on my list than the sound. Hell, my conversion sounds stock and is very quiet on the streets.

getting all 8 cylinders to resonate inside 1 pipe is the key...
can't wait to exploit this and show you just how beautiful an 8 cylinder engine's sound can be....
and then the skeptics will be believers...
the sound of one of these at a distance is almost siimilar to what i'm describing.
almost...

look, four cylinder engines all sound like crap (and i have one of the best sounding).... it's not a V10 or V12.... and last time i checked, no one is running either of those in a front-engine Porsche. but, the sound will blow away any V8 you've ever heard. and i'll even be so kind as to show you the recipe:
long-tube headers + y-pipe makes a very clean and powerful sound all by itself...
next, the gasses will pass through an SLP hollow chamber resonator and then a 14" Magnaflow resonator....
now the sound will be amazing, but a fair bit too loud...
and finally through a 22" Magnaflow muffler and out the back...
that's a straight pipe running through there with very little holding it back.
and through it, the 388 cubic inch, de-stroked LS7 will make music.
that's not a threat, that's a promise.

i read 944DFW's post on my 968 thread where he emphasized that the key was making power all the way to the redline. seems obvious, but, i wanted a fuel-efficient engine for all the highway driving i do... and the LSx engines aren't very pleasant to drive from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm when you build them that way (w/ big cam)....
and i also wanted the engine to be quiet, and not have the street-rod thump of the Z06 engine or lopey cams that people run with their LSx engines.... but, then it hit me... what about the Z06 bore with an LS3 crank ? well, somebody else thought of it too ! come to find out it's been done quite a few many times... here's one such example...
http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_12...ius/index.html
i won't be building mine with such an agro oiling system, or 12.5:1 compression, and for what i want, there's no need for LS7 heads, racing cam, etc.... but, power can easily be expandable out to the 6,000 rpm with just a medium, agressive cam...
anyway, this;
Z06 427 block w/siamese cylinders, 4.125" bore, forged LS3 crank w/ 3.622" stroke making (388 c.i.), forged rods/pistons (10.5: 1 compression), stock LS3 cam, LS3 factory rectangular-port heads w/ Manley chrome-moly pushrods and aftermarket valve springs....
short block assembly; $6,489
LS3 cylinder heads, aftermarket springs; $899
headbolts/gaskets; $120
rocker arm set/Manley pushrods; $380
LS1 F-body H20 pump; $249
LS3 cam; $149
valve covers/gaskets; $130
front and rear covers/gaskets; $152
labor to install above parts; FREE.
subtotal for bare long block; $8,560
* LS3 intake, fuel rail and injectors were sourced for from ebay after original owner switched to Fast intake and fuel rail; $232
** TPC (Eric Hill) oil pan, long tube headers w/ ceramic coating (shipped); $1,610;
***TOTAL (LESS coils harnesses/brackets and manual throttle body, and serpentine parts)... $9,246
additional engine parts;
Eric Hill custom wiring harness and VSS kit, manual throttle body, ignition coils, harnesses/brackets, LS1 AC, alternator and brackets, custom XSChop LS1 bracket to retain Porsche PS pump, starter, Eric Hill AC hoses....

You obviously were not around the scene in the 80's. The F1 BMW powered Benetton's had the best sound I have ever heard on ANY car and they were only inline 1500cc 4cyl. 1300hp and a red line at just 9500rpm meant a lot of boost though ![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

^ I'm pretty sure he meant all "normal" 4 cylinders. If you take his statement literally, then I could post a video my GSX-R 750 with a Yoshimura exhaust for rebuttal as well... It's a 750cc 4 cylinder that redlines at 14,000rpm.
