Good point - technically if you follow the history of the 924/944, the "current" Audi front engine coupe is the spiritual successor to the 944.
One of the many reasons the 944 had to be killed off was cost to manufacture and Porsche's new stream-lined process meant all new models would share many components. So even if the "944/968" name had been kept around it would have been a mid-engine car using the flat 6 variant.
If Porsche ever makes a front engine 4 again you can almost guarantee it will be the same engine in the VW / Audi line on the same platform as the A4 or TT.

Z4? Dude, put down the pipe.
I don't think Porsche would ever hire Chris Bangle

i see more TVR in that Ferrari.... anyway, doesn't somebody already make a front end like the second photo in the second post of this thread ? some of the photos you've all posted are fantastic. anyway i think the following is one of the better front valances ever done for the 944.

my car is likely, still a ways off from what a 1996~1997 update might have looked like due to 3 huge problems with the 968's front end that make it very difficult to attempt fixes.... 1. the tip of the nose... that is to say the point at the front of header panel (the 968 doesn't really have a header panel) at it's furthest forward advance is about 4~5 inches too high off the ground.... 2. this same point, on the header panel extends about 2 1/2~3 inches too far forward.... 3. the front of the 944 and 968 are both too flat. to illustrate this point, compare the front of a normal 968 to a late 911, Coxster or CGT. these are the issues that prevented me from doing a better, late '90s update for my 968.
