How would the 944 look today?
#46
"The 944 is a sports car built by Porsche from 1982 to 1991.
The story started in 1981. The PorscheAG CEO Peter Schutz realized the discontinued 924
model family needed a replacement. At first, they discussed
possibilities of making the new model with an all-new V6 engine, to
be developed by Porsche, Renault, and Volvo, but scrapped the idea,
due to high costs, and a reluctance towards splitting profits three
ways."
AAaah if it had a v6.......

dunno... i just thing it's remarkable he posted that photo. and about an hour before viewing his post, i had taken that snapshot of my car just as the sun was setting.... even the wheelspokes are in the same exact position. what are the chances of that?
btw, perhaps one of the reasons why Porsche has balked at making another 944 is knowing it would just be another boring front engine car... i can't see doing one with a V6, as they already have the Boxster. and the newest Boxster S surely has all the performance that any 944 had. i think the only thing that would justify the effort to build any front engine sportscar would be to do something fairly outrageous, like having a Cayenne-ish type engine in there. wouldn't be surprised if a prototype front engine sports car actually exists in a vault. but i bet it's for the same group of select buyers that own Panameras.

I'll also let you all in on my secret.... If you look closely, the two cars are Panameras that I chopped about a foot behind the front door and then removed the rear door.... I find that the Panamera has a nice front and a nice back but the side was too long. Shortened to a 2+2 configuration and you have what I think is a beautiful car that could easily be then next 944.
Hey Porsche, all I ask as a payment for my "design" is two examples of these future cars. One to drive and the other too keep.

in all fairness, the car you drew has often been a topic of conversation on the 928 forums. and the Panamera photoshopped in this effort more times than bin laden's rotting corpse. ok, maybe not. in any case, your photoshop is fantastic.

Hyundai and Kia used to be crap cars but now they're very good buys. Guy at work bought a new Optima. It's very nice. It comes with standard options that my 3series didn't.

I think I read that they are going to do 2 door coupe based on Panamera although it will be more a modern 928 than 944.
For my part I think Odurandina's 968 is pretty close to what a new one would look like, he's done a great job.

Didn't know the 928 guys already had their eyes on a shorter Panamera. I find the rear hatch more closesly resembles a 944 than the 928 but that is my opinion only.
It's not the first time that I come up with an idea that has been already thought of a million times. You should of seen me when I was three and I came up with the idea of a round object that could be rolled and used to carry things. I was going to call it the whowl because when I thought of it I remember sayaing "wow" what a great idea... Looks like some cave man came up with the idea before me and when he tried it out and went down a hill and he cried out "WHEEE!!!!" so he called it the wheel.
One day I'll be the first to think of something.
Ok, that joke wasn't my best one
