N-Tune

Let me tell you about my Mtune Kit. I have a 86 951 that has a few mods. 4" exhaust, racing lindsey clutch, upgrades to motor during build, Lindsey wastegate, 3" downpipe, Hybrid Garrett Turbo and the Mtune Kit. After the first try, boost was high blowing vacuum lines off and the inter cooler pipe. Pipe came off twice. Picked up the car and after the first beating, blew another vacuum port. Shop then did the vacuum deletes to lessen the problem areas. Now, the car has pull that yanks your arms out of the sockets. GOing from 1st to 2nd throws the car into the air and have to keep car straight upon landing. Before some of the mods, I had dynoed in at 265rwhp. I expect 350++rwhp now. Will dyno soon. So how is the Mtune, Awsome and Josh is a great guy. Since I believe I am the first here in NY to have this, I can terrorize most folks here as my car looks just like a 944. A sleeper is what I was after and received. Thanks Josh and I hope the ceremony and party was all you guys had asked for.

So out of curiousity is sd tune designed for he stock airbox or open filter? I assume the latter because of volume of air differences but i also figured why not ask. So whats the deal?

Designed for the stock airbox... Just looking at it, the stock airbox looks like a good piece, and should flow well while drawing in cold-air.
When I get to it, I plan on putting the stock 944NA airbox on my flowbench to see if there is any real restriction - but I doubt there is much of a restriction.

I am supper F&%king pumped about this.
I was looking at doing a stand alone ecu in place of the DME.
Will the chip in the DME allow me to tune? How easy is the software? I'm doing some head work, cam, C.R. bump and header and want to optomize to suit. My plan was to go speed density with the stand alone.
Any chance you can get the DME to take an input from a wide band controler? 0-5v
Thanks

I know it is getting a little closer but he has been shipping quite a few M and C tunes out lately along with testing various mafs for customers. All of that is time consuming. Not to mention the help he has given me on both my cars. I know he has been quite busy. I am also looking forward to it as I have now got my s/c car on the road using a 944s AFM and would like to get the timing under control.

No roadblock - I've just been out testing/developing, and am quite happy with the results! Re-writing the DME software to understand and properly utilize Speed-Density is not a trivial process, and, in-fact, is more work than doing a MAF conversion. This means that even-though it is more R&D work, the end-result is that less hardware is required, a simpler installation, and lower cost/pricing.
In-fact, I will be kicking out a pre-lease to my testers in the next few days... If everything goes well, then I will go ahead with dyno comparisons, and put the SD-Tune up for order

Great stuff! I really think this kind of work is so cool; tapping into the OEM and using it for our evil purposes! Ha, ha, ha, ha... Oh, sorry. Got carried away there.
As I'm a newbie, I'm busy with sorting other parts of the car at the moment. However, I'm eventually headed towards an SD-tune and/or forced induction system. I have a '84 N/A. Obviously I have to upgrade the DME. What would be the best selection of DME for me to start looking for?
Thanks again for your hard work Josh!

The ideal DME upgrade will be the late 28pin, as then you will have no work to do.
Second to that, is just the 24pin 85.5+ DME. This one will work, but you will need to update it to a 28pin setup.

Thanks Josh. If I were to do an eBay search, what would I look for? "1987 Porsche 944 DME"? What years (and models) had the good 28 pin DME that will work in a 84 8 valve N/A?
