So will the early DME work with NA tune as long as it has a 28 pin socket and either your MAF or a late AFM? How is that homebrew DME coming, btw?

No. Sorry if this confused my earlier statement. The 28pin socket that Doug posted works for converting an 85.5+ DME to 28pin.

The pre 85.5 DME will not work, under any circumstance.

Thanks for answers. Necessarily buy before May, had time to come to me the beginning of June to competitions. It is even possible that at the end of this month. I can not decide what to buy springs with torsion or your set.

MY QUESTION IS: I have an early 85. Can I do an "N" tune update by purchasing a 85.5+ DME and connecting that DME to the early 85 harness?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes, but you have to switch to either a late afm or buy the maf.

You only have to buy a late computer because Rogue will provide you with the rest.Remember, try to get a 28 pin dme or you have to send it to Rogue for 24 to 28 pin conversion.

I am planning on waiting to see how Rogues replacement dme works out before I go ahead with n-tune on my early car. If I have to buy a dme, it may as well be a new one, right?

I saw that on the site you can buy. When paying even take 20 dollars for shipping. I live in Russia and not sure what $ 20 can deliver a parcel to me. Approximately what I have asked Joshua.

I'm interested in another question. We have factory AFM adjustment screw CO2, as I understand it regulates the fuel-air mixture (correct if I'm wrong), especially on vehicles without oxygen sensor. How does the regulation of CO2 and fuel-air mixture at the MAF-kit with installation on the car without oxygen sensor?

Third, we installed the offset camshaft key, which gave a -4° shift in cam-timing. As I mentioned before, this should shift power to the higher RPMs... Well it did help keep HP/TQ up in the higher-RPMs, but was improvement was extremely limited and that was at the expense of lower-RPM hp/tq. The -4° shift only made better hp/tq after 5700rpm; everywhere else it gave up power.
So, we changed the cam timing to provide a +4° shift. This was the ticket! Power everywhere below 5700rpm was vastly improved compared to the previous runs. The drivability improvement and overall acceleration was very noticeable. Even with the advanced cam timing, the upper RPM was improved compared to stock.

Here is the stock vs modified (NA-Tune, 4° advanced timing, "cat-back" exhaust):
peak power stock: 117.6rwhp, 122rwtq.
peak power mod: 132.8rwhp, 142rwtq.

The % gains are ~13% increase in power (+15rwhp), and ~16% increase in torque (+19rwtq).
These mods are easy to do, and can be done for less than $800-900 (NA-Tune $500, offset cam key ~$20 (one pack will do two 944s), exhaust ~$300).
i'd like to bump this up with today's dyno results, cross-posted from my other thread...there is more to be had with this old engine

my car, stock with early dme/afm:
121.6/128.1

large NA-tune housing, 55lb inj dialed in more, +2 cam advance, under-manifold stuff refreshed:
133.4/140.0

i have a totally stock NA exhaust system, head flange to tip, with exception of CA-legal replacement catalyst installed (vs josh with no cat). and i only ran 2 degrees advance today and got practically the same numbers as josh did...so if i tried 4 degrees and maybe the 951 muffler i might be able to squeeze a few more out.

(the blue line is my previous best run with the large MAF housing and the better injectors, but stock cam timing, so it shows you how much the cam timing really gains)
