2011 944Fest - Nelson Ledges - June 17-19

If we can get the car fixed before the Fest - I figure Doc will want to partake of the track experience again. Assuming my S2 is fixed by then, we may be able to work out a deal with the track folks to let us do the first session in Penelope and then take the remainder in Stu.
I was wondering about the pistons. If we do turbo the N/A, I think we need to put the proper low-compression pistons in. We ought to start with some checklists for parts, tools and sequencing the work. I should be good with most any tools we need - but I think we really need to document everything to be sure all things are accounted for in advance.
To sidebar the piston discussion - we would need to know the condition of the parts and their size spec. I assume they are not oversize. I am fairly certain Penelope's engine has never been opened (therefore stock bores). It would be a good time to put in new rod and crank bearings (I would obtain - if we decide to do this). What about the rings?

Only components I DON'T have extra are turbo head (not essential, but good to swap "while in there"), intake/ throttle body, and Rods as I am reusing the stock rods with the AM pistons... ... and any consumable wear items such as bearings, seals, gaskets, and such...
MANY tasks related to basic ownership and maintenance can be done by a semi skilled, but knowledgable owner, if just given a little confidence... and perhaps a bit of advice, and or seeing it done once might help...

My stock 100mm 951 pistons are at CWs shop, and AM replacements on hand, so I have a set of Tg1 (IIRC) turbo pistons as well (would need new rings).. on top of headers, crossover, WG, turbo, turbo to tailpipe, MAF, intercooler, hardpipes..etc etc etc..

I'm really digging the maintenance clinic idea the more I think about it.. I am pretty fearless when it comes to working on these cars, and have done MANY of the jobs that make a few more than squemish.. suspension bushings, ball joints, Koni hacksaw mod, timing belt, clutch, head gasket (in the middle of on my NA), complete engine teardown, and will soon be doing a complete gearbox teardown (perhaps, depends on what I find while in there, and cost of having a local shop knock it out) however I will be adding LSD and cooling loop...

And really, there are going to be plenty of things that aren't going to bring this up to the same spec as a true 951. The brakes and the trans are not critical - and will require more time/ money. Getting just the engine converted will be monumental.
How's your list coming?

What's different about the turbo head?

If everybody had a notion, across the USA
Everybody'd be Festin' - Nelson Ledges way!
We'd all be bringin' our NAs and turbo S's too
Trackin' water pumpers - Festin' USA!

I think Scott needs one or two more card-carrying SCCA members to fill the positions required to make the rallycross a sanctioned event. If anyone can help out with that, let him know.
