I feel real guilty now paying $6700 for this car after seeing what that PIT is going for. I was really hoping to buy it for $2700 and get some parts off of it. Obviously the guys bidding are clearly not buying for parts.

ended at $3650, that is on the very high end of what the car is worth. Hopefully the engine is good for the new owners and they might come out OK. It would not suprise me to see it relisted in a week or so either due to a non-paying bidder.

Guys,

What's with the VIN sticker in the Ebay ad? Are they ALL like that?

As far as I knew, there is never a letter 'oh' in a VIN (too easy to confuse for a 'zero'). PET7 reports that the VIN as I read it from the image is invalid, and changes the third character to a 'zero'.

Time to confess. i bought it for $3650 and I know its a bit of a crapshoot. Plan is use the engine in a 944 SuperCup car (I was going to use an S2 engine) and install a Chevy V8 in the 968, to make a weekend cruiser. I have a pretty good and cheap body man who can sort out the body. The car has been sitting for 8 years, but if the mileage is anything close to 30K miles, I will be able to bring it back to life. I have lots of better wheels and tires, so the phone dials don't offend me. I figure the 968 engine is probably worth around $2500, so $1650 for the roller. Given the car's potential role as a weekend cruiser, I will try to keep the automatic. If that doesn't work, I've got a 968 LSD tranmission and all parts necessary to convert it to stick.

perfect. exactly what we figured should happen to the car, because, you take all the electrical gremlins out of the equation, but you would still have all those spare parts, with only one of them potentially being the problem... and then, the core for racing, and rolling chasis w/ low miles for $1,650. good call.

Thanks, for the vote of confidence. Now I have to wait for it to arrive to see what I actually bought. I'll post some pictures and updates once I start evaluating the car. I have an S2 harness which I'll use to try to get the engine running.

UPDATE ON THE BLUE 968:

is this a bidding war for that car ?.... i guess it's good to pick up a car for short money because you can do the body work, etc, like you were paying for the thing in installments, but now i think they're getting carried away.

Caymans are probably a better deal right now.

how is paying $30,000+ a better deal than a $4000 car that needs like $2000 to get in good shape?

glad to see the car went to a good home! a V8 would be a nice addition and using the 968 engine in your SuperCup car sounds like an even better idea!
