the iris blue car that sold this evening needs about 40~50 hours in the shop to get the body right - crass estimate.
needs new leather seat covers and some attention to the trim....
should have everything done on a front engine refresh, (belts, rollers, tensioner, chain, pads, H20 pump, etc, soon). just sayin.
i hear dollar numbers quoted and i can't help but ask.... are we all mechanics, body men and interior specialists ?

I found a nice 968 for sale with no body or engine issues. Unfortunately, it has electrical gremlins apparently. I don't know if I should chance it but the price is right... Good service history, recent clutch and belts.

I have to agree with Odur on this one.
Buying a $4k 968 is not much different than buying a $5k S2...which I did.
Main difference is that once you're done...you at least have a better investment in the 968....but there's much more than $2k involved in getting that car to be truly 'right'.
I would say that if the work were all done in a shop...$6k to $7k.
Done by the new owner...maybe $2k in parts.
Don't get me wrong...sounds like John (new owner) willl be doing the work himself...which means he probably got a heck of a deal....a solid 968 will roll out of his garage for $6k and some time invested.
For me...not having that time....it's a matter of "do I spend $11k to buy/fix this car or maybe $12k or $13k for one that's already 'right'?"
Not to mention there are several cabs on ebay right now in the $10k range as welll.

$6~7 k just for the plastic and respray in our neck of the woods, J., and for that matter who wants a car covered with plastic ?
that Iris Blue car selling for $21 K is the car i should be driving. i'm sure something could be worked out for a few dollars less.
anyway, came damn near to claiming a Cayman S on ebay several days ago.
