I was talking to a guy last year at Roebling Road who had an LT in his S2 and he said that the engine weighed 60# more thant the 3 liter. He was thinking about going to a LS engine block (aluminum?) that he said was actually 20# lighter than the S2 motor.
He said that the hardest part of the transplant is dealing with the relocation of the brake master cylinder...

From what I hear, there is a weight distribution change, but not as much as you would think (75 lbs?). To put the power down, you'd need a LSD transaxle from a 951 or 968. I know a guy who tracks one in local events.

I just picked up some shiny new parts today myself...
From drawings shown in the very same Manual.

Consider The Porsche® 944 V8 Conversion Manual the Declaration of Independence for the conversion community.

From a quick perusal tonight, it looks like a great reference for a lot more than just getting the engine in there, it would be a good resource even if you aren't doing a conversion. Great piece of work.

0-60 with these cars isn't really a very good measurement, the problem is you will either spin tires through 3rd gear...grenade a ring and pinion...snap cv joints...etc

I've seen sub 7's on my car...with poor gearing...no 2nd gear synchros...in the rain (no kidding). So these things will move.

LS's will get mid 20's highway (without any massaging, just a stock engine) maybe even higher. My car gets 21 or 22...mostly because of having the wrong rockers installed. In the city it is a very different story, especially if you like to drive kinda hard...i expect around 16 city....an LS with a turbo rear would probably get closer to 20, but no promises.
