Default TICK TICK TICK!

Well hello there, it's been quite a while. Quite a long while,. actuallly.
The 924S was parked last year for personal reasons. Divorce, etc. I almost wound up giving it, and the 911, away.

I've driven the car once since July of last year..partially because it needs new tires, and partially because it was taken off the insurance policy due to financial difficulties (again, divorce...). in April of this year when I moved, It came here, and was parked again. I'm about to ressurect it. New battery was needed, so I got that this morning.
On the first start to move it to a better spot to be worked on, a loud TICKING. I'm about to change the oil soon...

What could this ticking be? It does sound like it's coming from the top. I'm wondering if something is not letting oil through. Last time it was driven, it was fine.

might just be lifters, unplug the coil and crank it a few times to get oil flowing and see if the ticking goes away

Here's a short video we just filmed. The tick is very apparent.

Typical lifter clatter, let it idle for 10 minutes, then take it out for a drive. It will disappear.

Sound like lifters, happen to me once after a long storage , change the oil & add a good old bottle of valves cleaner (should work).

the oil comes out of the top end usually because the check valve in the head isnt working 100%. Let it run awhile until it pumps the oil up there. Ive had to rev the motor hard a few times to pump the lifters up before because they refused to do so themselves after sitting.

Typical lifter noise and they will pump up after the oil gets hot. I like the red hood support.

Cheers,

The the higher pitched clacking is definitely lifters, although as previously mentioned there is a lower pitched knock there as well. Warm the engine (take it for spin if you can) and then dump that old oil and filter. take it for a good drive with the new oil and it should quiet down significantly. Hope the knock subsides as well.
