he used the turbo off a saab on the 944? interesting. ive played with the idea of a volvo turbo several times, theres gotta be a hundred of them at the picknpull near here.
anyways that is interesting and all well and good but the point of this thread was trying to get more power out of the motor without going to forced induction.
if you could find that kid and get some pics though that would be fantastic

second that - I'd love to hear more details. Anyone know the make/model of the turbo that was in the Saab?
Callaway made ~20 944 N/A turbo kits in the early 80s that used an IHI turbo mounted on the passenger side of the engine. Those kits produced I think 300hp, including a 5th injector, low compression pistons, and a couple other things to prevent knock.

The 60 trim T3's are "better," in that they'll flow more air. I was making 330 horse on a 2.3L turbo Ford with its stock T3. They came on all of teh XR4Ti's, SVO's, turbo Mustangs, and the 83-86 Turbo Coupes (87-88's had IHI).
I don't recall what the Volvo used, but I think it was a T3, as well. May have also been a 40 trim.

Sell or keep
LP9944 I had a 944 n/a for the last 22 yrs ,just sold it about 2 weeks ago even though the car was a head turner. Peoples would not believe this was an 83 ,you could park it beside any new car and not be ashame of it.As far as more power, forget it either you sell it and buy something witch already make 200 hp or enjoy the car as it is you'll be surprise what it can do when push to the limit.Take my advices don't spend money on all kind of mods ,save it for an S2---Turbo--968---or even a 928.

Still baffled why no one has thrown an M62 or M90 Eaton on their cars and used a WAR chip or some programmable one from a new tuner that allows them to balance the A/F ratios at 7 PSI without detonation. That alone will make power. If 16v 928s on this board make well over 350 HP with a supercharger, what is to stop a 944 NA supercharged from making 200+ if done right?

Carl Fausett is close to a breakthrough with some of ssues with belt slippage/failures on his Raptor kit for the '968.
from there it should be just be a matter of time before he has a solid performing bolt on kit for the 944.

Sorry to bump this again, but I have the opportunity to buy an 86/87 8v motor with a good block. Been wanting to build a new motor for my S... Wondering if this might be my golden op to get a hold of a major 16v head and bolt it all up. Don't really want to do it if the blocks aren't EXACTLY the same.
Hmmm...
