Diameter wise? probably. they just have higher static compression as well as valve reliefs for the extra valves (as mentioned before).

I feel like you guys are probably right but something deep down inside tells me it would be worth it to look at a side by side comparison of the two blocks. I wonder if their part numbers are the same?

the blocks are absolutely identical. same crankshafts too. rods? and pistons are S-specific.

one thing to be aware of depending on model year - 86 and 87 might have a different sleeve to the oil cooler housing.

Based on those pictures a few pages ago the two heads certainly didn't seem identical to me as far as water passages are concerned.

The 2.5L block is the 2.5 block. Same with the crank, you just have to change the pistons and possibly the rods to run the 16v S head. The S2/968 heads require the 2.7/3.0 block.

True. Unless you get Lindsey Racing or someone similar to change the coolant and oil passages to match.

Haha true that, i suppose you can fix any problem with the proper application of cubic dollars.

Not what I was saying. The two heads appear to have coolant passages in different shapes which would involve some overlap and possibly create an issue with the headgasket.

If you don't have cubic dollars, you can also get there with cubic skill. Machine skills, port/polish skills etc. There are lots of ways to impvove the VE of the engine, that alone may not make power, but they can "free up" wasted hp used to turn reciprocating mass, and pumping oil and water through poor flowing passages.

If all else fails. Cubic *****. Pretend you have the skill, and try the machining yourself anyway.

nice numbers, congrats; where did you get the additional hp from.

We know your engine already has some modifications as you stated on pelican parts forum:

- Wössner 11.5:1 Pistons
- 944 Turbo forged rods
- 2.5ltr engine block with steel sleeves
- Balanced FW and crankS.
- vibration balancers removed from the engine
- Jenvey ITB's + Pipercross airbox
- Tatech 32Lite engine management
