I believe reading before the main problem is that the head design. it just doesn't flow as good as modern DOHC heads.

yea...if this were a honda, we'd be making 250hp stock with a 2.5L displacement and revving to 9000RPM

There are SOHC motors making big number out there. Some hondas with SOHC make stupid numbers. What about the head is limitiing? the Valves, or is the ports and cam?

oops I lied.

It was 230bhp, 204hwp.

Same guy built a B20 though that makes 311whp! 15.5:1 compression. So badass. It's on carbs too...

Stupid car- have you ever tried to drive a front drive grocery hauler with over 200 HP? I like idea of some of the ricey stuff, but your stock 944n/a is a lot more fun.
More valves and cams do not unanamously make more power. Mercedes aboandoned their 4cam/32valve V8 in the late nineties for a SOHC 3valve that made more power/torque on less fuel.

naw M62 supercharger at 9psi. hehe at 8600rpm, it makes quite a tantalizing sound. especially since i got a exhaust dump after the header.

i've paced a 996 carrera 4 neck to neck on the highway and beaten a cayenne S from a redlight (ok not really an accomplishment)

It isn't the number of cams, it is the valve area. Honda has used a lot of SOHC cams with 4V chambers.

The 944 has some of the best ports in the industry, even to this day. They were the best ports in the industry into at least the early 90's.

I had said it earlier, and the linked $10K engines making 200 horserpower use it. Bigger valves. You want more power, you need more valve area. That is the single biggest factor in an engine's ability to make power.

an early 928 only has like 220hp stock and they are heavy so they are not really fast compared to modern cars.
