Angry Got my crank today...Never shopping at Huntley again.

alright. I come home from work, and see a nice big box on the front porch. my crankshaft had arrived. Ok. I am now happy. I get out of the Pontiac and go over to the box. it is beat to hell. completely. Yes, it weighs 56 pounds, but the thing is, it's a $400.00 part with $300.00 modifications done to it. it's REALLY precise. so, you'd think the people working in shipping would be smart about this and put a sticker saying "FRAGILE" on it. none.

Not to mention, instead of taping the flaps together, they had taped a square piece of cardboard to the end and one of the sides had been broken loose.

so the beat to hell part is Fedex's problem, but here is why I'm adding huntley to my **** list.

1. charged the card WAY before the work was done.
2. they said they needed 2 weeks, fine, but stay true to your word. if ya need three, say ya need three.
3. the only helpful person I talked to was Adam
4. shipping dept. didn't seem to care about my $400.00 crankshaft.
5. Huntley is a "middle-man" company. they send the crankshafts out from them to a different machine shop. something I could have had done here, had I known about it. and it would have been cheaper, and I'd had my crank installed and the car running long ago.
Usually, 2 reasons is reason enough to go in my **** list. but 5!?!?!? what a nightmare.

those are my reasons. thanks for reading. just needed to let off some steam.

I can see farming out some machine work if you are selling crank kits or complete engines, but simply having your crank sent to them so someone else can machine it and send it back to you seems a bit strange, oh well I am sure they made money off you.

I just got my blower back from procharger I had them check it and replace the seals... Anyway I get it back in a HUGE box a box 10 time the size of the blower and it has a foam cut out in the center. then a foam cut out covered the blower...It was packed in a good 12" of foam completley around the blower....I WAS very impressed. I will hang on to the box if I need to ship it back for repairs in the future.

I think this should be a standard. You spend a lot of money and they can't spend $5-$15 in packing materials. I think it is BS!

There is nothing like face to face.. I lived in denver for quite a few years. there are plenty of race shops. They are downtown. I worked at Apex auto and body for years. don't know if they still exist accross street from the main police station and the mint. The owner was BOB. dad owned it since 1930's or so. Knows every one. Try and ask for references... It is a good ole boy's network. We did mostly german cars.. HTH.

I wouldnt count on fragile labels changing how fedex handles things. I had some aftermarket seats shipped to me via fedex - with fragile labels all over the box. They arrived with several holes in the box. I take the seats out and there is a 2" tear in the vinyl at the headrest and a slight dent in the slider rail. Now I have to wait for fedex to pick it up and for the seller to send me new seats. This the 2nd time fedex has done this to me. The first time was a much smaller box that contained a dent puller and a training video. The box was destroyed - the dent puller had been smashed into the video cassette and shattered it.

Crank in a cardboard box.... you'd think hearing about a $3000 engine block packed in cardboard would make people wake the hell up.

FedEX will have to bite the bullet, they accepted it and beat it up, but it should be the suppliers priority to make sure it is packaged better than a cardboard box. Amazing. Good luck... hang in there, and don't use that crank unless you have yet another shop check it for balance.

I know Dan from Accessible Technologies (Procharger) in Lenexa, Kansas. He is very concerned with the way he ships his product. Most of his business is shipped-so he understands the importance of protection.

Packaging is expensive, but I would think warranty/fighting with FedEx would be more expensive.

You are corrrect that proper packaging materials are sort of expensive, companies should just add it into the shipping charge calculation, that is what I do. You could add it into the product price but then you are at a disadvantage when customers start price shopping and are not comparing apples to apples on total price.

I still can't believe how Perry951 got his engine block shipped cross country in a cardboard box with little protection. Heavy and or very large volume boxes are going to get banged around more and you better plan on it. A tired worker is probably going to let the box drop hard when she sets it down. And the heavy ones run the risk of getting stabbed with a forklift. And they are going to be put at the bottom of the truck load with a bunch of boxes on top of it.

I stored the box for future use as it seemed like they were shipping a nuclear weapon. I think they could have shipped an egg in this package and it would not have cracked. I really aprecitate the extra effort ATI put forth.

I've been on these boards for about four years now. I have heard so many bad Huntley stories here that I can hardly believe they still have ANY customers. I see they are STILL charging cards before shipment, which by the way is ILLEGAL. I see they are STILL lying to customers about delivery times. When will people learn?

Last year I switched from a 951 to a 928. We have three main suppliers for 928 parts. I have used all three and can say without hesitation, they are so much better than the 944 guys (except Jason at PP) that I could never go back. No lies, no excuses, no junk. Like I said before, it is hard to believe Huntley has any customers.

haha, you think you have it bad? My engine block came in a cardboard box with nothing more than 1/4 of the box full of "popcorn" Block was shipped from Cali to Va like this. Oh yeah, and I was quoted 3 weeks and recived my block 7 months later.
