You could try your fiberglassing skills and make something suitable. I would start with the header panel and give it a rake from the nose to where the hood meets- then continue on down the hood, maybe with some hood extractors like the ones you see on a terminator cobra. I think that could look interesting.
Another alternative is to do a hump in the middle that tapers off to the sides like some of the cowls you see on C5 vettes. Almost looks like a simple and soft looking bulge. Non intrusive, is what I like.

if you aare a bit of a body man just take another 944 hood cut out the center section body line to body line nose to cowl then take and cut out the center section of your good hood leaving the amount of rise you want as access bed it up weld on the second skin and you have a mostlty stock looking hood. greatly simplified but you get the idea

I would start by measuring the hood up, and cutting out the bare minimum you need for the hood to shut, and then see what you have to work with from that point.
To do a shaker hood, you would just finish the "edges" of the hole in the hood, and tack weld or bolt a peice of the hood, or a scoop to the intake manifold, then throw some gasket around both edges and give it a little room for the engine to torque/shift, and viola!

i think i understand what you're saying...essentially take the center section of the hood and overlay it above the original minus the area on the original that needed to be removed...is that what you're saying?
i'm definitely going to take it step by step and go ahead and cut out what i need to cut out of the hood to allow it to close, then go from there...i'd LOVE to do a shaker hood, that'd be so original and so badass...
sorry Spencer, never was much of a fan of a Z...they hold their merit, but not nearly as high in my book as a 944, don't think i'd mix the two body styles...i like the idea though...kind of like the c5 hood bulge idea

i've considered that too, i'm watching a couple on ebay etc...
i'm also thinking that i might just try cutting across and back where i need to, but not completing the cut in the back so i could just fold the edge up and create two triangles on the sides to raise the front edge. If that doesn't work i can still cut it out, but it may be a good temporary solution...

Race Car
to me though, it would be a better option than a scoop
also what about lowering the crossmember??
