well not sure if I actually fixed it but got it to work again for now. I think my oprv is binding due to the bore probably not being smooth.
not sure if I should drive it like to school until I get the oprv replaced. I drove it for about 30 minut today and it seemed fine.
however on idle the pressure dropped to 2.5 bar once and I reved it and it went up to 5 bar and stayed there for a long time.
my oil pressure at idle is higher now than before won't go below 2.5 bar when before it would go just below 2.

We all hear you on that, loud and clear. speaking of hearing, i think thats the problem. we hear you loud and clear, the question is do you comprenehd what you hear (read) loud or clear? so what's new? Are you a student with a limited budget that has to take a bus to classes without a tub o turd to drive? are you still working at the only garage in town with no metric tools, and a lift that cant lift a 944?
dude, you admit your car is borderline POS, so why spend the extra money on a K&N? Just get a decent filter with a check valve.
I dont know much about ergonomics but i do know when the outflow of dough is greater than the inflow, as you infer is your situation, sitting on a thicker reserve is a comforting feeling.
i think the ergonomically correct thing to do is spend as little as possible on the tub o turd you call your daily driver.

Tom...your words are a tad harsh here. He's just a kid. I don't know about you, but when I was young and full of **** and vinegar it sometimes took some time before advice sunk in.
Yummy...get that OPRV replaced, for it may do the same thing again, and you may not be lucky next time.

pretty soon and learn by doing will be the answers the kid gets. i applaud his tenacity and hands on work, but it is getting a little to dramatic.

KN is the only oil filter I can get around here that has the drain valve. the other filters I can get are fram, bosche and beck/ arnley and non have a valve.
not sure about Napa gold filter is that okay to use on the 944.
the bosche filter feels really cheap (thin metal casing), I've heard of oil filters blowing up with high oil pressures so I was worried abuot that also.

Napa Gold is excellent, but why not reuse your old filter if it was only on there for a short time? A filter will go 10K miles easily unless maybe you live in an area prone to sandstorms.

You might try sanding the OPRV lightly with emery paper (maybe 400 grit), followed by scotch brite. Clean it thoroughly before re-lube and reinstall. At least until you get a replacement...

Ah fk me after sitting overnight the car starts up with no oil pressure again wtf??
yesterday I drove it around for 30 minutes then parked it for 2 hours and came back and was fine again but after sitting for 12 hour or so no oil pressure again.
this time instead of priming the oil pump I will remove and reinstall the oil pressure relief valve and see if that fixes it then i'll know for sure if that is the problem.
this makes no sense to me though why would it loose oil pressure after sitting overnight and not while driving.
I still have 20w50 oil in it and will now switch to 5w50 synthetic

Maybe because the 20/50 is too damn cold after sitting all night.
If you read most vehicle manuals, it states 10/30 for like below 30 degrees, tacoma is even 5/30. Many different engine types obviously, but just because the back of the bottle says its ok doesn't mean that it is the right viscocity for your oil pump.
