If I get a chance tomorrow before I head to the Sabres game, I'll toss a nearly bone stock '86 with half a tank of fuel on my corner weight scales for you guys. It's missing headlight motor/linkage, has weltmeister sways, and an AC delete but I *think* I have the components around I can weigh separately.

88-89 - 1290 kg - 2838 lbs
968 - 1370 kg - 3014 lbs
just for reference - 924 GTR 945 kg - 2079 lbs

Turbo's are def not 2800. Even my owners manual knows better than that.

the 2600ish figure might be a dry number...add gasoline, oil, radiator fluid, ac compressor and accessories (probably not counted in early weight), PS fluid...etc.

And Lighter weight? Maybe what, 100lb's heavier?

A 951 platform will cost you maybe 7k. A good one to start from. Add 10k for a swap, that's very conservative. You are at 17k. That is without modifying the engine, or the chassis. Bone stock everything. You still wouldn't be able to outrun a 951 with a simple turbo kit.

Lets say you want to get above 400rwhp and maybe improve the chassis a bit too. About 2-3k in motor work to get you into the 400's reliably minimum. Then another 2k for some coil-overs or other suspension stuff and maybe 1500 for a simple brake upgrade.

Now you are at almost 25k. You could have bought a c5 Z06 for that much money, and you would have had a better transmission too.

I understand that you like the 944 hybrid, I just think that looking from a logical perspective, trying to reach a goal with the least difficulty, the c5 would be a better option. I only say that because you or someone was trying to argue to me about intentionally making things more complicated for myself by building a 944 motor, with little in return. I'm just using that same argument against you.
your prices are a bit off...

you start with a 944na with a blown motor for $1000, i can show you one on craigslist right now

then you pay the guy posting on porschehybrids.com $7k to do the conversion, he's done 8 so far so he knows what he's doing (if you do it yourself you can do it for as little as $2500)

thats $8k

then if you want 500HP, before you do it you upgrade all the stuff on your ls1/lt1 and that should cost about $1-$3k max and now you are at $11000

now you add in coil overs (or you can just get a stiffer t-bar and koni sports shocks and stiffer springs) range is $500 - $2500, now you are at $13500

add in $2000 more of whatever you want and you are at around $15000 for a 944 with 500hp and no turbo lag with coil overs totally custom and $2000 - $5000 of custom parts (whatever you want, body kits, brakes, seats, wings, paint, 5 spare 944na transmissions, etc...)

$15k for 500whp super car sounds good to me
