Thanks, KPV! Heh, felt like I misplaced it.

Chris, she was vandalized, and that's why she was salvaged, can you believe it? That and the stereo cut wire remnants that I found were the only signs I found. Like I said, I think it was mostly the owner couldn't figure out the electrical gremlins.

I think it was Brake Fluid, but Power Steering fluid could have done it, too. It's more embarrassing on the hood, but I just tell people I'm restoring it.

I'm trying to do a straight swap on a hood with the same color code, so I could just put her bra on for now. We did polish and wax her a bit, but that hood still looks so raw! I think that will at least optically make her more appealing, most people don't go running around and looking at the roof.

But as you can see, little rust. The other blk/blk 944 that I was considering (mostly for the fuchs) had alot of body rust, even in the battery compartment. Just eaten through to underneath. I think I would have had a hard time repairing all that cancer.

But I think her having a straight body and mechanically sound is worth it. Since we spent about $1200 doing upgrades on my boyfriend's car, I told him we are spending the same on mine - though not all at once.

Laters!

Michelle,
Beautiful car. It really makes me miss mine. I had a 1986 also, although with Fuchs, and sold it with 250,000 miles! It was such a great, balanced car. One of the driving experiences I remember most was at Bridgehampton Racetrack on Long Island. I had the car in a four wheel drift on dry pavement at 80mph. There wasn't any other car that could match the balance of that car.
I am sorry to hear about your oil pump woes. Good luck with the repair. I don't think you did any damage to the engine when he ran it and you heard valve tapping since the engine wasn't under load and, presumably, it didn't go on for too long. But, that is just my humble opinion.
Here is a pic of my old one just for fun....

LOVE the color! That would be my next choice after black <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
I'm hoping there's been no engine damage. The car had slightly over 100k miles on it when I bought it and I got well over 250K on my n/a before the head gasket blew. I'd hate to have to rebuild the turbo over something as simple as having a wp job done. Oh well. Live and learn.

EDIT - Cool! Post 944!

Hey Julie I've been thinking.

Is the paint on the fenders doors etc ok?

Remember the 83 Mustang GT. The panel just under the windshield was painted flat back, to cut down on reflections. Maybe a little wet sand and a flat black spray on the hood and roof might be a cool look for the short term.

Say it's a racing thing.

I think from the distinct separation between the painted surface and paint removed surface of the car, the corrosive chemical is pretty potent. I think its probably something like the chemical used in stripping the paint off the caliper as pictured in the thread "The Ultimate "How To" In Caliper Refinishing" at the link <a href="http://members.rennlist.com/perry951/images/calipers/calipers.htm" target="_blank">http://members.rennlist.com/perry951/images/calipers/calipers.htm</a>

Michelle, the ring at the back of the engine? Hmmm...well I couldn't get to it until the end of summer, sorry! Gotta get that comic book done, or fans will roast me for that dragon of yours!

Ken, that's a pretty color there, on your old 944. Is that burgundy? Heh, that's the color of my old Eclipse, or darn close!

Sid, that was down to the bare galvanized metal, that is not primer you are looking at. It was also sprayed lightly on the fenders, driver's side door, and DUMPED on the hood.

Here's a better pic of the hood damage:
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/KijosHood.jpg" alt=" - " />

And then the alarm brain, and it's horrible tentacles that were messing Kijo's electrical system up! Is that the worst thing you have ever seen shoved up under a dash, and entangled with the wire harness of the car!? Unbelievable!

No different (cept for the drivers side bit) Maybe you could paint one of your charcaters on the side

That wiring just gives me the chills.

Reading this thread reminds me of when I bought my first 944, also a MY1983, 9 years ago this week!

It had 88K miles on it, and now has 202K. In the 9 years I've owned it, it's been to he%% and back (including the time a tree hit us and it saved my life) and has cost some money to maintain but probably not quite the purchase price of say, a new Honda back in 1994.

Not to mention that they are extremely pleasant cars to own and drive. OTOH, when they haven't been treated right, they tend to give nasty surprises, but of course you already know this!

Anyway, just wanted to say that I find "Project Kijo" very inspiring and wish you all the best on getting the car running reliably again.

Hopefully you are planning to remove that mass of copper.. It should lighten the car up by at least 20 pounds..
