If you don't have it, get a Haynes manual. Much better than nothing and a pretty good wiring diagram set for the earlier models. If you take the separate pages and photocopy them, they can be taped together making tracing wires a lot easier.

I have a Haynes in my storage locker, grr! Just have to see if it covers '83. I'm just going to have to go in and dig...anyone interested in old war magazines? I can't keep them all, just not enough room.

What I've thought of so far:
1) 2 litre bottle of water
2) Duct tape
3) Assorted hose clamps
4) 944 manual (after I find it)
5) rachet set (want to upgrade to Craftsman or something)
6) Open end wrench set
7) Screwdrivers of various sizes
8) Pliers
9) Wire; bare and coated
10) Fuses
11) Mini torch
12) Bag of latex gloves
13) Paper towels

Can you think of anything else? Thanks!

we will get your beauty decked out for the appacalypse!!!

add these to it:
1)starter fluid
2)fix a flat (never know how bad your spare may be, or what kinda situation you might be in)
3)FLASH LIGHT!!!! (a really good one, a good size too!)
4)2 bottles of oil (never know when youre suddenly gonna loose oil preasure)
5)jumper cables (or what i also have is a jumper box.. you charge the box with an extension cord, unplug it, put it in your car. when ever you die hook it up to the bat. and start it up, that way incase no one is around you can jump it by yourself. kinda like a cross between jumper cables and bat charger)
6) belts (for what ever kind of belts you crazy water coolers have )
7) points.. opps never mind.. thats for my car, you guys have electronic ignitions dont you hehe

7)(the real 7) a small empty gas can for the trunk for just in case instances (buy a new one so your car wont stink.. doubt it'll be used but you never know)
8) electrical tape!!!!!

ok a few of those may be retarded but thats everything i could think of that you didnt have, that you should. most of those should be must haves! especially if your car may not seem reliable at first (ie the truble you emailed me about etc). and its best to be safe than sorry.

on your list, honestly i dont see the need for wires, or a mini toarch (if that is a flash light, sounds like its too small and not bright enough!!! believe me, if you break down you wanna see what the hell youre doin)
get yourself a decent size tool box you can cary, and it should all fit inside (except a few items like small gass can etc.)

babe, it looks like a great car that just needs a lil love . that is a great story, and it only seems fitting that you found her! i cant think of any other person who could give that kinda love other than you!

she reminds me of when i was 3.. seeing my dad's brand new 83 944, black on black leather.. ah yes.. one of the happiest moments of my life, when i saw my dad drive her, i realised, this is not just a car.. its a porsche.
did the carfax ever sa that one was in columbus ohio? she is a dead ringer with the exception of age, and my dad's had fuchs and i cant remember if his had the 'porsche' reflector or not.

she may not be your preasious saphire, but you know what they say, if you cant be with the one you love, love the one your with.. and im sure you have more than enough to give her! keep me posted! (oh btw.. i posted some pictures for you to enjoy on the 912 board in response to what you said about the 356 in your area )

Glad to see pics of the new 944. Sounds as if the project is coming along quite well. Congratualtions on the purchase AND the new comic book.

War magazines? I like war magazines. Are you looking to sell them or simply pitch them? Shoot me an e-mail

There's only one Haynes manual for 944's. It covers all the early models. Kijo is definitely covered.

Im addition to what's listed, I carry..
an oil filter wrench, spare oil filter, Upper and Lower rad hose, some spare vacuum lines and barbed fittings, 5-minute epoxy, super glue, Porsche Parts catalogs with a TOLL FREE number, an old cell phone (for 911 only just in case) A copy of "On the Road" in case I'm stuck for a while, Spare 8, 10, 11, 12 mm bolts, washers and matching nuts, a Leatherman Multi-Tool, Zip Ties, Jumper Cables, hunter orange plastic Rain Poncho, and old cotton sheet- (a variety of uses, but good to lay on the ground during impromptu inspection sessions..) a clean cotton towel, waterless hand cleaner, packets of alcohol hand wipes (from local Casino), Game-boy Pocket and several games, Battery powered am/fm radio, I know there's more but thats all I can think of.
Except for the Extinguisher (behind Drivers seat on floor) and Jumper cables (RR Cubby) , All this stuff fits neatly into a Totes 10x14x4 Auto emergency bag..

I guess all those years in the Boy Scouts taught me to be prepared-

Hey Julie!

Glad to see you Back in Black She looks wonderful - so much character and life. I have to believe many of the comments you are getting are b/c of her character. I can also bet you're being hit on sometimes

Go with the eject button. If you get another bf like the last one, bring Kijo up to 120 with bf in seat, reach over for his "knee", and, well, you can figure it out!

Good luck on the restoration. I'll be happy to help out in any way I can, although my parts car is an '87. And I second the black color being sexy

Love the ideas, guys! But should it be an ABC fire extinguisher or what?

Thanks Michelle, I really appreciate it! The ejection button is sooooo tempting...shame I can't make it work for real! Just have to depend on Photoshop for that, hehehe.

I did find an 11" toolbag at Harbor Freight, but that's 3" short of Chris's suggestions.

Harry, she has no history in carfax before 1994; looks like she was driven hard for the first 10 years, and then pretty lightly through the last decade. She was brought into Trona, CA, in March of '94. Nothing before that. Her born on date is in March of '83. So she could be from somewhere else, maybe even your dad's; if you can come up with the vin # (may be difficult now, huh?), we could compare.

So it looks like the major engine problem (I hope) is fixed. We replaced the oil cooler and the oil cooler gaskets. They were totally blown, looked like corrosion held it all together until I went down to Anderson Motorworks and back, heh. I guess driving in the desert and mountains/hills shook it up. I told Legoland that I thought maybe the old oil was holding it together, but when we changed it, it went!

Now she's still periodically going to the 3rd bar, which does concern me, and there was some coolant loss. So I'm driving it around to see how she responds. The second fan is kicking in at the 3rd bar, I just feel it shouldn't get to that, sitting in traffic. If she still loses coolant I guess we'll just have to replace the head gasket.

But when she moves she's between 1/4 and 1/2, which is where I feel she should be all the time.

This car really is lucky, it was slated to be taken apart then the rest to the junk yard. I think it is showing appreciation as much as a mechanical animal can. I always feel since they are made by people, they take some element of the builders. That's what my dad always said, anyway, so I go by that.

Wish Kijo and me luck tomorrow! I do hope the catalytic converter is okay, that's my main concern.

- Julie
