I actually MET and spent 3 hours talking to some friends of my GF's- the Kerouac's. Cousins of Jack's. They just got back from Mainland China in March (left just before SARS!) what a small world. I can see how diseases can spread in such deplorable conditions. there are roads being built by MANpower. living conditions there are poor at best.

I'm beginning the "project car" in a few weeks. Getting parts lists ready now as I'm waiting for the carcass to arrive.
It's all your fault Julie- you have inspired me.. I had thought about purchasing a garage queen-- but I have an entire box of rubber gloves for engine work now..

Chris.. no way! that is too crazy! how the hell in gods name did you meet the Kerouacs? what did you guys talk about!?!?

btw.. rubber gloves for engine work!? just use some dawn dish soap and steel wool, your hands will get clean! (well i use that and the mechanics hand cleaner stuff my dad has, but i like dawn better.. keeps my hands nice and soft ) i shouldnt tease ya though. at least you guys do your own work. thats more than some people. i think half the fun is taking pride in knowing you did it yourself, or at least trying. im amazed that i saw a thread last week about someone asking about how to do an oil change on their 993.. well then again look at the typical owner.. not to steriotype or anything) then again at least their trying it. ok im in a rant.

I use latex gloves. Don't like to touch carcinagenic chemicals and fluids if I can help it. I want to stick around as long as I can to play with my cars. Chris I am glad you chose to work on a project car. You will find that its much more satisfying when you drive it with a sense of accomplishment. For someone like me, I have to know how to work on my own car because I know I will own one of these for the rest of my life.

Same here. Plan on collecting a few so I can always have one running.

Then again I might be a bit more realistic. Considering that I smake ciggamasmokes with hands covered in said carcinagenic chemicals and fluids, I figure I only have to keep one running for 4 or 5 years or so.

I always wear gloves when I work on a car, heheheh. I should toss some into my emergency kit.

No, Michael, she has a manual sunroof. But that means no motor to worry about!

I'll have plenty of comics, don't worry. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I am contemplating on puttind Kijo into it, with an article on her restoration, if time permits. But art comes first, then that!

Chris, ya blaming me? Ya blaiming ME? Sounds like you just used me as an excuse! Glad I provided some inspiration. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Anyway, we replaced the window motors in both doors, and managed to leave the tint alone.

She's really gone through a big change, from nearly a dismantler orphan to a lean, mean running machine!

I'm seeing about replacing the hood with another black one, so I could then get away with putting a bra on it, until I can afford to repaint it. The tires are cracked, so I have replace them shortly.

I have new pics of the problems we encountered, when we first removed the dash. I also will have pics over the next week of her all cleaned up, with a new steering wheel - the other was held together by sheet metal screws.

Any suggestions on a decent CD/Stereo system? I'm afraid all the wires are cut, and the front speakers look really bad.
I don't have alot of money to play with, but I can tell you it must be a detachable face, since that's what they seem to go for in Southern Cali.

I bought my boyfriend one for his car with front speakers, installed, called a Rampage, with an aux in, and detachable face. Cost me a total of $150. Can anyone make a suggestion that would come close to that? I noticed the speakers up front are tiny.

Okay, Pic updates! These are things that had to be done:

#1
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Kijoshorn1.jpg" alt=" - " />

Yes, that's me, to prove that I actually did some of the work! That's Legoland taking the pics, btw. Yeah, I was feeling really grimey at that point, and we just couldn't believe that part of the alarm was HIDING a horn in the speaker section of the dash! Unbelievable!

#2
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Kijoshorn2.jpg" alt=" - " />

Here's a closeup of same horn. They even had cut some of the top edge down, just to shove it into the horn! Look at the expert install, using a black zip tie, lower right. I guess this horn was to blast the would be thief's eardrums out!

The funnier part was that there were two additional horns under the hood! No wonder there was a short in the positive hardline to the battery!

#3
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/KijosDash1.jpg" alt=" - " />

If you look carefully at the wire harness, you will see that the ducting for the driver's side left is crushed and messed up, probably from the installation of the aftermarket Clifford push pad alarm. That thing caused so many problems with the electrical, I can understand why the last owner got rid of her.

Bad for them - good for me and Kijo!

The only stero I would recomend is the Nakamichi the one I'm thinking of I don't think has a detachable faceplate, and not in that range.

Just don't get a sony.

Wish I had some cash to get one for me I could let the pioneer it came with cheap.

Just because you asked for it, Michael - why I didn't post a pic of her roof before.

As you can see, needs paint!
