Ive been trying to figure this out for a while now. I had the dyno sheets but they got rained on and they were thrown away so I dont know the A/F. Im trying to get another copy of them though. Anyways the car (88 924S) only made 116 whp, and similar torque. The motor tested 3% leakdown on cyl 1 and 3 and 7% on 2 and 4 so I figured the motor was healthy when I bought the car. The cat has been gutted so I dont think that the exhaust is clogged, anyone have any ideas?

SAE corrected. I didnt get the data files to see actual hp, but even using SAE correction it shoudl be 125+ to the wheels. A lot of dynos Ive seen are in the 130hp range.

Might just be old...out of the box they probably hit 130 to the wheels so it might just be tired and need a rebuild...
see topgear where they have an 80HP lLambo orignally rated in the 70s for over 200.

I didnt do a compression test because the leakdown numbers were so good. If the car isnt loosing air on leakdown what info would a compression test provide?
Ill see if I can get someone to lend me a tester, or maybe Ill pay a visit to harbor freight.
The 88 motor was rated at 158bhp.

By the mid to late 80's the 944 wasnt so 'entry level' anymore. Porsche wanted another car to be 'attainable' and had it priced around $20k. It basically an early 944 in the slimmer 924 fenders..and a mix match of early and late offset suspension parts.

The '88 924S is pretty sought after by people into competition motor sport due to its lower weight and higher compression engine.

Are you running lean or rich? Those leakdown numbers are not bad.
