At least you're not getting those hp numbers from a 951...

So that means my car is faster than a 951 then, right.

Do these cars really have 25%+ drivetrain losses? I know the transaxle/torque tub combo saps power but is it really that bad? A lot of the 944 spec guys are hitting 130 whp or so.

Jason you are down on power. That is assuming these are dyno jet numbers.

You can try a couple things. IE spark plugs and having the injectors cleaned. You could even put in a proper test pipe, but in the end you just many need to rebuild the motor. Power down in that range is often a result of either cracked rings or slightly bent valves. Don't settle for this as normal.

Joe,

Spark plugs were changed about 5 months ago with the OEM bosch plugs. They still look ok. When I bought the car in may last year, I ran a can of BG 44k through the car when I bought it last may and in my experience that stuff does a pretty good job of cleaning out the fuel system.

Wouldnt a cracked ring or bent valve show up in the leakdown test? It was done after buying the car last year, so maybe I should do it again to see if this is something that has recently developed.

Could your ignition timing be retarded for some unknown reason?

a little OT, but mongo that is the funniest avatar I've seen in a while!

Jason, you are in need of some work. I'd do a compression test just to be sure. I'd also look at the timing to see if its right.

Mongo- Ill have to check on that. The cam timing should be ok as the belt was replaced at the beginning of the year, and retensioned after 2000 miles. I just got off the phone with a friend that works at a shop so I think Im gonna redo the leakdown test and also test compression while im there. How would the ignition timing retard? I thought the DME controlled the ignition so... but I guess I can try to borrow a timing light and verify.

edit- Ok here is the dyno, still trying to get the AF ratio, but I think the shop erased them.

What type of muffler are you using? If it is a straight through type, you could be running very lean, causing the low power. I have first hand experience with this. I wanted to see what my car sounded like with a test pipe and no muffler (stock chip also). I went for a drive, and noticed the car went very lean on full throttle (according to my wide band, I forget the exact values however). It felt like I was driving a 1.8L that made 100hp tops.

Exhaust is OEM from the manifold to the exhaust tip. The only thing Ive done is "adjusting" the cat with a jack handle when it got clogged. When that happened the car wouldnt rev over 5k, and eventually it just died on me. It had a piece of catalyst big enough to clog the pipe break off! I dont think this is the issue but I was going to drop the exhaust tomorrow and see if I can clean the cat out a little more.
