That's right...individual throttle bodies.

I would also like to know the diameter of the intake ports on the 8-valve head.

I was looking at the JME ITB setup, until I saw the price tag.

It doesnt seem that hard to make an ITB setup though, just the linkage will be a PITA to get to work with the throttle cable. Go steal some rx-7 ITB's or honda/acura setup and use the parts

If I keep the '83 im going to make an ITB setup either this summer or during school at UTI. If your starting this project, let me know how it goes

JME is overpriced. I know this can be done for half the price he's asking. I have looked into using Suzuki throttle bodies as a start. The runner diameter is 40-45mm, hence why I'm asking if the intake ports are the same size.... Sounds crazy, but it's not the first time someone has made homemade individual throttle body setups.

Could be an interesting attempt here

On one of the ' how to make the 944 n/a faster' threads someone posted a 924 with custom ITB's that they had built years ago to prove that the audi engine could make 180 hp n/a. I have no idea where that thread is at though

You can order some intake cone's that can be cut by yourself to determine which length you want them to be. I'd go with a 40mm and long runners, but then again im no ITB designer, but that would seem like the basic point to start working from.

There's a carshow in the morning over at UTI here in Sacramento, i'll ask some of the students and teachers what they think about an ITB setup for the 944 and what should be looked at when building a setup.

The ports are just under 41 mm and the TB is 56mm.

interesting. The funny part is I looked at ITBs for Honda Civics and the ports on those heads are 5mm larger.

Read books by Corky Bell to get some of the theory. Theres also info on the MegaSquirt forums and links to different bike throttle bodies that can be used.

Maybe I'm a real newbie, but I don't know that ITB stands for or what they do or what the benefit is. I would love to learn!

Stands for Individual Throttle Bodies, gives better throttle responce, and would theoretically offer more flow than a stock. Google is your friend, theres lots of info out there.

They're also making 150HP out of a 2.0L versus our 2.5 making the same number.

Maybe that could be taken as proof that ITBs work?

Sort of... a lot depends on engine design ie bore vs stroke. F1 engines get 7-800hp from a 2.4L, but they're gutless with only about 200-220 ft-lb of torque. If you really want to compare Honda B16 engine from a Civic SI 1.6L, 160 hp

but back on the topic of ITBs... I'm considering doing it to the 924S running a Megasquirt setup.

ITBs just give better response and more top end power.

A well designed setup with custom plenum will run $3-4k...that's just how much it costs.

They also have double the amount of valves as well as variable valve timing.
