Default DOGGAMNIT!! Cracked windshield!

I got a little stone chip right in my line of sight on Tuesday. So I take the car to the glass shop so they can fill it with the special vacuum method popular these days. The guy comes into the waiting room and tells me as soon as they applied vacuum a crack spread immediately across the windshield! I am so pissed.

So now I'm looking for a replacement. Anyone parting out an 85.5+ with a good windshield? Close to the Detroit area is a bonus. I will drive to pick it up if distance is not too great.

If they touched it, and the cracked it, isn't it their responsibilty? I'd think if they were "fixing" it, and the messed up, they would be liable.

Unfortunately, I don't have a case against them. They state upfront that there is a certain amount of risk in the procedure. They gave me a number of 5% where the crack spreads. I feel so special knowing I fall in that elite group.

Dan - the early windshield, will it physically fit? I know it won't have the antenna. What about the dimensionals?

That is the chance you take when having a window pit filled. The glass company is not liable in any way.

Scott, to my knowledge, early and late dimensions are off by nearly 2 inches in width. They are set in differently asl well.

Time for that 968 antenna conversion I hear you can get the non antenna version cheaper. You might just want to go new @$350 is my understanding.
Try searching. I remember a few good threads on places to get them etc.

Salvage yards are aweswome. Good luck man. By the by, I have had a crack in my windshield for over a year and have not let ANYONE touch it fearing what happened to you.

the rocks car has a BRAND NEW early windshield in it- about a half inch gap on each side which they filled in w/ black silicone- idiots! They set in the same, but the early one sits in further and is shorter on each side due to that.

Yeah - I've had a little chip in the windshield since I bought the car 6 years ago. It's blocked by the rear view mirror - so I never cared. The new chip was right in my sight line. Now the crack is EXACTLY where I want to align my eyes to see the outside world. This must be corrected. It is most annoying.

Got some good leads from a search. Will hold out another day or two, in case this thread turns up something.

If you don't NEED radio, i know non-antenna windhsields for late cars are available. They are nearly half the price as well. I am waqiting till i get enough for the antenna windshiled. So i'd say another 6 months before i get it replaced.

I do like listening to the radio. So that is certainly my preference. I could always install an external antenna (ala the early cars) if it came down to it.

By the way - Bean - are you the one doing the total makeover on your engine compartment? (I know it's one you you Feenix guys - need another couple of dates at the Kilt to get the names and faces reconnected). Even if it's not you, it looks awesome!

Edit - nevermind. It's KevinCNC's car I'm thinking of.
