I'm getting a new windshield installed on my car as soon as my re-paint is finished. I was wondering if that trim piece comes with the windshield as standard or do I need to order one?

Cheers!

This seems strange to me- mine's a Turbo S w/sh**bags & a stock antenna windshield- there is nothing at the bottom of the glass- right below the windsheild wipers, if that's where we're talking(?), the glass just ends- I've always thought it was sort of odd & that there should be some sort of trim, but... Anyway, if all sh**bag equipped 968s had a certain windsheild, I'd think it would be the same as the Turbo S & all 1987's as well, that had sh**bags... I can measure my windsheild across, for reference, if anyone would like... Actually, I could even measure the height & take pictures too, if it would help anyone...

Hi Robby,
I'm talking about the plastic trim piece that runs around the sides and top of the windshield that keeps the winshield rubber trim held in place....theres no trim or rubber on the bottom.

Kevin - Let's talk! I will take some photos tonight and photoshop in the dimensions. That way we will have a point of reference to work from.

I'll also see if I can locate a friend (or friend of a friend) to help or at least give pointers on the proper removal of such a windshield. I have some experience - but we only get one chance this time.

Drop me a PM or I will do the same in a few days. Might not be until Sunday -at the earliest - for me to make it down that way.

Alrighty, latest in the Saga... scott, I really hope to hear something from you that makes me positive about this whole windshield thing. Again at Safelite, once I finally got someone to lookup the 968 glass, FW 710, even without antenna, is $690! 3 other places tell me the 968 glass is NLA!

So I am back where I was last week, so far the best price for late-compatible glass is $460 for Pilkington FW603, which is antenna replacement glass for the late model.

I VERY much look forward to your research guys. This is nucking futs!

Now that is as curve ball. Its funny because my friend Tom said joking the 968 glass is probably going to be an arm and a leg. "That will be $300....oh wait, ts for a 968. That will be $600".

Hopefully someone comes up with another source!

The latest I have is what I got from before. The FW603 looks like the only thing available in the size we need.

I posted the image below on the parts car thread that por951 started. (Interesting - the car he picked up was the very one I learned about from a coworker and posted the link to).

Anyway, the photo should be moderately useful for determining windshield size.

Thanks Scott...while neither of us is likely happy with what we've found out, at least it seems we've finally come to a conclusion. FW603 is the one... and even then you MAY have to call around to find it, as the local PPG shops all refer you to the dealer or provide you with a quote using dealer glass prices. The 'cheap' price is Pilkington FW603.

Looks like I need to find some more side jobs here in the next month... need to find a 'spare' $460.

Very interesting. What year is your car? Care to do a measurement of it as shown in an earlier post?

Scott, I got out today and did the measurements. I'm getting the same thing you are, so they are the same.

Cool. I've got one more possible lead I'm working on up here for a replacment. I doubt it will pan out.

Hopefully, this weekend I will get some practice with my windshield tool and develop some skills.

If the local lead does not go anywhere - I'll very likely want to come and visit. What kind of beer do you like?

No beer required, but the Sam Adams seasonal is good this time of year. LOL....

Seriously, no payment of any form needed. I just want to see you get it out with out breaking it.

If you do end up getting one that doesn't have an antenna, let me know and I'll sell you the 968 style one that I have for cheap.
