Just to clarify a coupe of things. The design of the 928 stared in the early 70's, way before the 944 was ever even a thought. Due to the oil crisis, the 928 project took a couple years longer to complete. The 944 shares a lot of parts from the 928 and not the other way around.

my guess, and it is just a guess is that work designing the 924 started before they started designing the 928.

i would also venture to guess that they started design work on the 928 before they started on the 944.

for some reason i think the 944 is more like an extenison of the 924 than a whole new car. cant explain why though, just a guess.

now i may go out on a limb here, but bear with me. for some reason i think the 944 came before the 951. i know i am pushing things with that one, but i somehow got a fuzzy feeling about that.

Also, I wouldnt test lego when it comes to porsche trivia. i think he cheats, and has the trivia engraved in his brain.

Comments I've gotten: "Hey is that the new Miata?"

"What is that, a Ferrari?"

"Wow that Miata sure has a deep exhaust note!"

"It must go, what at least 200 MPH right?"

"Wow that's at least a $60,000 car huh?"

Fun stuff owning a car that sparks these kinds of discussions!

wow, i've lucked out. i usually only get people that are educated talking about my cars.

"holy ****, a turbo. i've got an n/a at home......f*ckin nice car, man!"

i almost literaly cant go anywhere without someone complementing the car.

even when it's dirty.

i was at the autozone the other day (just buying a multimeter) and the girl at the counter says (in a rather tee-hee manner) "i like your car!"

then the guy at the counter and I started talking about porsches, and then he told me he's a transplant from florida, and how his old boss used to have a "900hp 930"

then i wanted to die.

i did get a guy once in an IS300 ask me if i liked my VW. i asked him if he liked his Toyota

To me you sound like a new owner in the honeymoon phase. The 944 is a fantastic car, but there are much faster cars out there and cars that handle better.
You just restated my first post. But to be clear, my definition of "hang" compares power and handling based on a stock setup and assuming equal driver skill. A Miata with its light weight has an advantage over the 944 on an autocross track. A motorcycle has acceleration that very few cars can match due to its power to weight ratio. The M3 (e36) can definitely out accelerate a 944. We can compare the Elise to 951 to M3 lightweight, but the point is the same.

The 944 is a good balance of power and handling. That is to say there are better handling cars with low torque, or high torque and high weight at the expense of maneuverability. The question is which poison do you prefer?

I am so past the honeymoon phase at this point, I am in the family counseling phase.

No the 928 started first, thats where the whole rear tranny front engine water cooled idea cam from.
The 944 is half the 928 engine, but not EXACTLY. the 2.5 liter is from the 4.5-4.7 liter, not the 5.0, the 5 liter was 4 valves per cyl introduced in 85, so the S2 followed suit there.
A modded ANYTHING cannot be compared to ANYTHING! i hate nothing more than 'if i had a chip, i would smoke you', 'if i put a bunch of suspension and tires on my honda i would beat you'! that is why there are classes in racing.
Back on subject, i don't actually hear much about my porsches and its good, i try to avoid it. I try to change the subject for the exact reason you guys get:
wow, thats expensive
a what?
you must be rich
and my favorite, someone who 'had one of those' or 'buddy had one'

Here is a Honda H4 car passing 3 Spec 944 cars in less then 1 complete lap at WSIR. H4 cars have the same rules as the spec 944's.

Thats pretty impressive. How can a honda do that, especially that easily? Ive romped on hondas in an N/a before in the turns, and in the straight lines? What gives?

Honda challenge drivers aren't the 16 year old dumbasses that give honda drivers a bad name. Honda suspension is wonderfully setup, like a freakin sports car. Throw a set of konis and springs at it, and it becomes a sports car.

I have gone to AX in my stock 2.0 GTI and schooled 993 TT, Lotus TT, C5s and others. I am not saying this to blast my own horn, but I think it has a lot to do with the driver. I know I have been beat when I was driving my Porsches by Saturns. But the driver was outstanding and I was OK with it!

I think Andrew and I are on the same page. It is the driver 9 times out of ten.

Thats fine, Edik IS a good driver, however, most of the H4 cars pass 944's, not just him... So all 944 spec drivers are bad drivers?
Of course both cars are great in their own right, but people need to reallize that everytime they dismiss the lowly civic, that it is in fact a very capable car. Honda knows how to build em, just like porsche.

I don't know about just like Porsche. But they make a hell of a automobile, I'll give you that. If hondas are set up with tires and suspension they go like hell. Those engines love to rev! But a honda is not built like a porsche and I think almost everyone will agree with that.
