Default Pics of my ride

Hi, I posted a couple weeks ago about the 1987 924 track car I just bought, with 968 engine and ton of other mods. Here are a few pics:

haha, That's BADASS.

Is it front heavy at all, or is it still pretty balanced?

Sorta OT to this thread: how do you tell the difference VISUALLY between an S2 and a 968 motor? Is there a dead giveaway type part somewhere in there? Just asking cause I can't off the top of my head see a difference with my S2.

But to add to the praise, looks real nice. I'm also a transplant, with a S2 in an 83 body. You sure have a good sleeper.

Default That swap is a 944S2...

Unless the swapper used a 944S2 head and intake systems, that is a 944S2 motor.

Visual differences include...air box on the 968 is directly in front of the engine. The 944 pipes the air intake into the nose.

The 968 intake manifold and valve covers are much more modernized. The ones in the 924 pictured belong to the S2.

It says "Variocam" on the 968.

That is a 944S2 swap...nice none the less...

951 header panel on a 924 body. Looks like teh PO was going to switch to a 951 front end eventually.

yea thats an S2 engine
the trick is telling the difference between a 2.5L V16 S engine and a 3.0L V16 S2 engine
how would you go about doing that?
(besides looking at the airbox placement)

If you do a search here on Renn, the former owner was a poster here and there was a discussion about that car when he owned it. IIRC, it is a 968 block that has a 944S2 top end on it. If I wasn't so lazy I would do a search and find the thread.

Sorry about that non-matching header panel that is supposed to fit a 951/S2, doesn't look so good. Otherwise the car is bad-azz, great sleeper.

I could swear I saw this car somewhere before, maybe on e-bay?

I thought it was some blend of 968 bottom end, and S2 head/intake.

Are the fuel lines in the 924S in a different location than the 944?? Those are not coming out over the exhaust? Or is this another part of the "custom" aspect of the install?

Nice car anyway. Is the airbox a S2 airbox? Might explain the need to use the 951/S2 header panel.

Cheers,

Yup. They come up the firewall behind the brake booster. Makes changing them a piece of cake.

It's pretty. and I'm glad to see that good 'ole Roger Zimmerman sold his car.

what a great ride you've got there! in fact, the engine that currently powers my car used to power that one...

the engine in that car had an S2 head, but a 968 block. it's got the hydraulic T-belt tensioner, so it's a "toss the belt on and leave it alone for 30,000 miles" type thing. The head is an S2's head, as it has no vario cam. Very powerful car, and it FLIES!
