Fannar, you have just summed up Iceland in that sentence. Some of the craziest cars, bikes and the most beautiful girls there. Spent lots of time and had lots of fun in Keflavik. You should get some trees though...and some daylight in the winter would be nice.

How I found Out About Rennlist: Just surfing, it seems to be about the best resource on this car.

I better post while I still have mine, now for sale, because it's why I picked my specific car. Though Porsches have been in my heart since I first saw one and I plan to be back again in the near-future with a 911.

Name: Chris

Age: 31

Occupation: Sr. Telecom Analyst, oil & gas

Non-Porsche Related Hobbies: My wife and two sons, parenting, Audis, constant surfing interesting Euro car ads and auctions, politics, home mods, IT, electronics, home audio, electronic and jazz music, skiing, travelling, golfing, firearms, exotic beers.

Porsche Genesis: Beyond the 959 poster on my bedroom wall, it was sometime during the summer of 1990. My father's good friend was a senior engineer for PCNA in Reno, NV when we lived in SoCal. He visited the house one day, in a Guard's Red 951. Obviously, we went out for a spin- I got to ride in the back (I was 9 or 10 years old). It was dusk, there was some early techno music playing lightly, and Dad took the wheel with the owner riding shotgun. We went nearby outside the neighborhood to a vacant 4-lane suburban roadway with a wide, shrubbed, median. And Dad took it up to 90mph from what I saw in a glance at the speedo. It was the most awesome thing I had ever experienced. The 951 has stuck with me ever since that time. Obviously, I recreated the moment the day I got mine. And the day after that... and the day after that...

How I found Out About Rennlist: Can't remember but it's always been 'the' Porsche forum long as I've known.

Name: Birkin

Age: 29

Occupation: Professional student: working on a Ph.D. in literature, also teaching college classes.

Non-Porsche hobbies: backpacking, cycling, novel writing, home brewing.

Porsche genesis: My dad was always a home mechanic for our fleet of diesel VW rabbits (don't ask) with a background in air-cooled VWs. My first car was a diesel Volvo 240 (sloooooower than molasses). Our neighbor has a cousin who is a Porsche enthusiast. When he put a 944 up for sale, I bit. Hooked ever since.

Age: 32

Occupation: Full time student coming from a background in the print industry.

Non-Porsche hobbies: Other cars (Nissans primarily), Computer Hardware, Shooting Sports, Beer (home drinking, not brewing)

Porsche genesis: Loved Porsches ever since I was a little kid. Spent some time playing with cheaper cars. Always thought a Porsche would be an end game acquisition, but then I stumbled on a good deal on a pretty decent condition 924 Turbo at the same time that I needed a project.

How I found Out About Rennlist: Followed a search engine here in my quest for knowledge.

Might as well chime in as I visit the forum almost daily. Its cool to see a bit about some of the folks I chat with here, though..I'm feeling a bit old here..

Name: Scott.

Age: 42 (I am the answer to the meaning of life the universe and everything) Douglas Adams fans will get it.
Location: Toronto GTA, Canada

Occupation: OEM Paint Technical Services Specialist I get to play with cars at work and at home!

Non Porsche hobbies: Early Datsun Z cars, Traveling, Sailing, Zen philosophy, The Art of War studies, with more than a smidge of Zombie movies (waayyy too much according to my wife)

Porsche Genisis: Bought my first 944 cab from a fellow Datsun enthusiast after getting tired of fighting a never ending battle of rust with a killer Datsun track monster turned garage queen due it being totally impractacle/uncomfortable to street drive, and too much invested to risk crashing/breaking stuff. I just wanted to drive something fun again, that was reliable to drive regularly, and comfortable enough for longer trips. Always wanted a Porsche right after Risky Business, 16 Candles, Weird Science etc. The Porsche 944 is as much fun, has almost as much prestige for 1/4 of the price of a 911!

I found Rennlist after searches for things to look out for when buying a Porsche.

Wow. This thread escaped me for many years. Allow me to introduce myself.

Name: Mike
Occupation: Editor, writer
Location: Tampa Bay area
Hobbies: 944s, cars, photography, friends and family, music, outdoor stuff
Porsche Genesis: I've owned my '89 NA since 1995. My introduction to Porsches began in the '70s when my dad had a 914. He bought an '87 944 Turbo new, which reinforced my longing for a 944 since its introduction.

Porsche Genesis: While living in London, I had a friend/co-worker that purchased a new 944 in 1984, he went to the factory in Germany to take delivery. When he got back to London with it, I got to drive it and I fell in love with it. Almost 30 years later when cruising CL, I found a 944 "cheap" and bought it - I got to drive it for a short time to determine what needed fixed before I started tearing it down to fix leaks, six months later I am almost finished and hope to have it back on the road soon.

It's far from the best one out there, but it is mine and I love it!!!

Long time reader and occasional poster...
Name: Mark Knoepfle (no-full to Americans)
Age: 43
Occupation: Manufacturing engineer / project engineer. Used to do packaging machine design, medical device design and assorted other mechanical engineering odd jobs.
Hobbies: Used to rock climb (nofalls - get it?), bike, cannoe, kayak. Now I spend most of my time doing electronics and finding hobbies that my 9 year old son and I can do together.
Porsche Genesis: I grew up in the back seats of 911s and 912s. No really, my father is a die hard Porsche fanatic and stuffed my brother and I back there at an obviously early age. I know what 356-Keep the faith means and what the ABCs and 123s of 356 and 912 engines is about. Why a 944 for me? In the war between good and evil, evil has more fun.

I went to the Porsche Museum a year or so ago and treated it like a trip to Mecca. My father has been since and I dream of us going toegther. If you ever have the chance jump at it.

Non Porsche hobbies: Cars, Family + my cream chow chow, Metal working, Fitness, Gaming, Music, Fun, Good Alcohol, Hunting, Fishing,

Porsche Genesis: When I was a young boy, my uncle bought a 1980 grey market Carrera. He would drive me around in it and let me take pictures looking like I was driving it and such, it was what made me fall in love with cars. It was black, with the turbo look package, wide rear fender arches, whale tail and all... sexy. Well he said one day that I could have the car but he ended up selling it, still, that didn't change my love for all things Porsche.

Ok, I guess it's my turn...

Name: Dave

Age: 30

Occupation: Subject Matter Expert at Microsoft Game Studios - Turn 10. I recently finished my Masters degree though, so I'm looking for new opportunities.

Non-Porsche Hobbies: My Alfa Romeo, my daughter, music, electronics, movies, tools, tinkering...

Porsche Genesis: I grew up a car guy.. got it from my Dad. For some reason, I wound up with a Honda, and spent a while trying (unsuccessfully) to make it a cool car... One day, a buddy of mine came over in his new 968 Cab and told me to take it for a spin. Less than a month later, the Honda was sold and I had an 85.5 944 NA. It was kind of a POS.. it had low miles, but it had not been well cared-for. I spent probably more than it was worth fixing it up, and made it pretty nice.. Then some guy fell asleep at the wheel on the highway and ran into me. Car was totalled . I tried other cars... none made me happy like my 944 did... so, a little more than 3 years after my 944 was destroyed I bought my current 951... The rest is, well, not what I would call "history", but it is fairly well documented on Rennlist.
