Name: Hugo

Age: 32

Occupation: Musician/teacher

Hobbies: Cars, Racing (sim and real world), Sailing, Photography, Mountaineering, Travel, learning how to read wiring diagrams

Porsche Genesis: Dad had a series of 944, 951, 928, 964, 996 and now in a 997S... so I grew up in a Porsche family. I got my '84 944 n/a 2 years ago, and have been slowly prepping it for DE events and eventually racing.

Future wants: Well I'd like to finish the full prep list for the 944 cup car, but long term I want a 997 cup or GT3.

Other Cars: '03 Nissan 350z, '96 Ford Ranger XLT

Previous cars of note: erm, the 350z, '79 280z, '76 Triumph Spitfire

How I learned about Rennlist: Lurked here for the past 2 years after searching the interwebs for help with my car.

Name: David

Age: 24

Occupation: Ornithologist, but currently working as a part-time auto mechanic

Hobbies: Music (saxophones, guitar, mandolin), birding, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, soccer, generally being outside, photography, woodworking, and driving long distances for no good reason

Porsche Genesis: Played Sports Car GT as a kid with the 993 GT2 and the GT1, fell in love with the brand, decided I probably wouldn't make enough money to own one ever, then test drove a 944 in college. Waited 5 years after that to buy one, but went ahead and bought the manuals and spent too many hours researching them.

Future wants? A 914 I can fully rebuild. Maybe with a 2.7 6-cyl. I'd love an aircooled 911 too. And probably another 924/944, probably boosted. Perhaps a 987 Cayman S? Honestly, if I had the space and money, I'd probably acquire one of about every manual transmission RWD Porsche ever made. But that's not going to happen. Can't imagine trading my 944 for anything, though.

Only car: 1983 944

Previous cars of note: 5 speed 2005.5 Jetta TDI. Broke constantly, but got 50-60mpg, and got me across the country 4 or 5 times.

Name: David

Age: 32

Occupation: Software developer

Hobbies: Music - I play jazz on upright bass semi-professionally (and use the 944 to carry the gear!) , hiking, backpacking, restoring and renovating houses...

Porsche Genesis: Fell in love with the 944 after seeing a white one drive by in downtown Toronto on a spring break trip with some friends back in college, then picked up an 83 944 NA a couple years later after I realized I could carry an upright bass in one on the urging of my wife (who then taught me to wrench!).

Future wants: Another 944 turbo, and some kind of air-cooled 911.

Only car: 1984 944 NA

Previous cars of note: 1983 944 NA (wrecked, my fault), 1988 944 Turbo (wrecked, someone else's fault), 1985.5 944 NA (the wrong car for me at the time, turned into a track car by the guy I sold it to), 1998 BMW e39, 1999 e39 Touring...

G'day everyone,

Longtime rennlist readers and dual owners of an Australian delivered 1985 944/1 N/A. First time poster but we made an introduction video to make up for our lack of posts

Name: Harrison & Mark

Age: 26 and *Undisclosed*

Occupation: Project Manager/Cinematographer

Non-Porsche Related Hobbies: None

Porsche Genesis: We are the third owners of the car since new and boy has she seen the good times and the bad... This particular car started the passion for Harrison 8 years ago and shows no sign (yet) of slowing down. Lovingly maintained by Buchanan Auto in Sydney.

This car is driven regularly and rarely washed... The way they should be.

How I found Out About Rennlist: Google is our friend, rennlist is the one stop shop for the 44' community.

If you get a chance check out the short Mark made last week!

Name: Justin

Occupation: Wal-Mart home office, Information Services Division: Control Room (Run the mainframes for Wal-mart worldwide)

Age: 41

Porsche Genesis: 944's came out when I was 9, loved them since I was a kid. About 2 years ago started doing searches for something older that got good MPG to offset my Suburban for driving to work and other solo driving. Discovered post about people getting 30+ in their 944's. Started searching for a 944. Found it on Christmas eve 2015, rest is history.

Future wants: 951, 928

Other cars of note: 94 Acura Legend, on it's last leg. Maybe save it, maybe junk it. 82, 86, 88 Firebirds/Trans AM's. 89 Firebird GTA. 68 Mustang (first car) Datsun 200sx (second car) Ford Probe (POS Mazda, there's a reason you don't see them anymore), LeBaron convertable (another POS), 99 K1500 Suburban (Porsche Service Vehicle/ Family Hauler) One of my favorite cars: Buick Regal, cracked a head, but loved that car.

Rennlist: Google showed me the way, searches on 944 kept coming back here.

I like how the 'questions' evolve over time.

Cal, 34, Mechanical Engineer

I was born a Porsche guy - There was no family influence, and I don't remember a time when they were not my favourite car. However, it took me WAAAY too long to jump in and I just bought my first Porsche last summer.

I knew of Rennlist through Google for a while, but it was also recommended by the previous owner.

I'd like to pick-up a clean 968 and 928 when money and space permits.

Hobbies - Well, this car takes up a lot of time, along with my Cougar and bike. I'm getting into 3D printing/scanning. Lately I've been playing a lot of X-Com2.

Previous cars of note - '09 STI, '08 Mazdaspeed3, '89 Toyota SR5 4x4, '87 Mustang modified heavily.

Name: Patrick

Occupation: Planner/Conservation Agent/Energy Officer (Local Gov't)

Age: 50

Porsche Genesis: Never was a big fan until I was a teenager and saw my first 928 (1978), Chocolate Brown with Pasha Interior. I fell in love... Had many cars over the years including an 1981 Ferrari 308 gtbi back in the 90's. Fast forward to four years ago, my wife watches 16 Candles and cries for a "Jake Car". The search begins with a couple test drives and finally buying one on CL (sight unseen). Many hours & dollars has been poured into her but now she's in beautiful shape and very reliable.

Future Wants: Early 928

Other Cars in Stable: 2012 Mercedes C Class Coupe, 2015 Mini Cooper

Rennlist: Been lurking around for a few years but only recently active on this forum

OK, why not:

Name: Mike

Occupation: IT Systems and Network Administrator

Age: 48

Porsche Genesis: Teenager of the early 1980s. I went to a private school during middle school years. My parents were college professors, but not well off, nor were they any kind of sporting enthusiasts. The parents of classmates would show up in 911s and 928s, and I would drool. I read car and motorcycle magazines religiously from about 9 through high school. A friend’s father got a 1984 944 and that was the first one I got to sit in. Bucket list from that point.

Future wants: Under contract for a Cayman S at the moment. I have a one-way ticket to Dallas and will drive it home. That should keep me happy for a while. Life dream would still be a Ferrari 308/328GTSi, even though my new to me Cayman has 60 more HP.

Other cars of note: I went down the rabbit hole of making sporting driver’s cars from Volvos. Classic 1984.5 Volvo 244Ti with all of the aftermarket goodies you can buy. 1998 Jeep Wrangler sport with dual tops; Open motoring with manual everything. Volvo 850R wagon. Awesome when it ran, temperamental otherwise. Volvo XC70 modded up to ‘R’ spec. A hauling wagon that hauls. Moto: BMW R100GS Paris Dakar, Yamaha Seca 650, Honda VFR750, Kawasaki KLR 685 purpose built adventure traveler, Honda VFR 800 ABS.

Rennlist: Spontaneously bought a 1986 944 NA last Spring. Then the need for fixes and mods began. Google found me RL and PelicanParts. Happy camper.

Brand new here so:

Name: Steve

Occupation: Looking for a job in the automotive feild

Age: 26

Hobbies: Music - bass player looking to get back into it.

Porsche genesis: I've always wanted a 911, but was drawn to the front engine watercoolers when I was young. A good friend of mine's father owns (but is now rotting in his driveway) a 924 turbo and I remember getting rides in that as a little kid. In highschool I wanted a 944 as my first car in the worst way but for better or worse was talked out of it. My father and I bought an 83 944 a few years back with the intention of restoring it and getting it running again, but it turned out to be a rust bucket and we sold it, as well as the parts car and all the good parts that go with it (big regrets giving away all those parts now ). Anyway onto the new one now.

Current stable:

'84 944 black/black. I have a build thread running right now. Interesting car with options like with sport shocks and sways, bought it from the original owner who bought it brand new from our local dealership.

'02 BMW M3 - coupe / 6spd I love this car and will never sell it!

Future wants: 911, 951, 996tt, and some bmw's: e30 m3, e38, e34 m5... I could list 100 cars if I wanted to

Rennlist: I must have created a username back a few years ago with the original 944 I owned, but I lost the password so had to add some numbers to my go-to username

Name: Evan

Occupation: Software Engineer

Age: 25

Hobbies: Wrenching, driving, snowboarding, guitar, pub trivia, and video james

Porsche Genesis: Started getting heavily into cars in college. I've always respected Porsche because of their racing heritage and narrow focus on making good drivers' cars. I bought my 944 at age 20 with earnings from my part time job at UW's health science building machine shop.

Future wants: I'd love a 993 or 930 some day, but at the rate they're appreciating, that might never happen. Maybe a 996 turbo. Aside from Porsches, I really like the Alfa 105 series and the BMW 2002. Then there's the other side of me that would rather have the practicality and low maintenance of a new car, like the Ford Focus RS or Mazda MX-5.

Other cars of note: After the Porsche, I've had an '87 Toyota Supra, an '03 Hyundai Tiburon that I'm trying to forget about, an '05 Mazda RX-8 that I sometimes wish I never sold, and my current daily driver, an '08 Subaru WRX that's been kind of my intro to performance mods. It's a fun, practical, well-rounded car, but it makes me miss the directness and simplicity of the 944.

Rennlist: Finally got around to fixing up the 944 after it had been sitting in my grandparents' shed for nearly 3 years. Joined Rennlist primarily to get some advice about how to bring it back to life.

Name: Scott

Occupation: Technical Director (I run the main/large auditorium for a small university, as well as most of the mobile A/V on campus.) I also consult on A/V installs and design/build theatrical sets.

Age: 41

Porsche Genesis: Growing up in the '80's, who didn't want a 911? Then, in 2010 I needed to replace my car after it was totaled. I looked at a number of sports cars and decided on the 944.

Future wants: WAY too many to list. My list is extensive and constantly changing.

Other cars of note: None, really. I had an '81 Mustang, but it just had the little 2.3L with an auto transmission.

Rennlist: I joined shortly after buying my car in 2010. I believe I found it through another site. I wasn't very active on RL in the beginning.

I haven't formally introduced myself...

Name: John

Age: 45

Occupation: Engineer

Non-Porsche Related Hobbies: Autocross, photography, beekeeping, gardening, travel, dogs, oh, just go to www.dogparkracing.com and be done with it!

Porsche Genesis: Never was a fan. My 944 is a tool that gets the job done. But it's growing on me. Not sure I will ever really be a true Porschephile, but I really like the direction Porsche is going with the Mission E.

Other cars I have owned (entire list):

1985-90: 75 Triumph Spitfire (just struggled to keep it on the road)
1990-2003: 90 Honda Accord Coupe EX (heavily autocrossed)
2004-2014: 03 Audi A4 1.8T 2wd (a dark period for motorsports in my life)
2014-present: 14 Ford Fiesta ST (the renaissance)
2015-present: 88 Porsche 944 NA (track toy)

How I found Out About Rennlist: A friend sent me a Rennlist link to the car I now own, which I bought right here!

I will say that I have found this site to be invaluable for the expertise and advice I have already gotten in just a few posts. Hopefully my questions will help others, and I will always try to post any lessons learned for posterity. Thanks, everyone!

Name: Greg

Occupation: Government attorney

Hobbies: Still play pick up basketball, house projects and puttering around fixing things, mystery novels, autocross

Age: 54

Porsche Genesis: I have always been a car guy in general and sports car guy in particular. My first car was an Austin Healey Sprite, followed by many more Healeys, MGs and Triumphs, first as daily drivers, then as hobby cars. When I stopped driving old British cars daily I got my first "practical" car, a first generation RX7. After years of working on British cars I wanted to experience and learn something new.

My first German car, bought it cheap, got it running well, but too much rot underneath for me to justify repairing, sold with full disclosure

I still have this one, redid everything, all work myself except machine shop work on the motor

My first and only Porsche, cheap sad, neglected, having a blast bringing it back to life

Rennlist: Business trip after sealing the deal on the 924, but before picking it up, 4 hour flight delay, nothing to do but Google Porsche 924

Future Wants: Next car will probably be Italian, Fiat X1/9 or an Alfa GTV6, must have a Saab Sonett. Porsche 914, Beck Spyder, long low wide late 50s US American land yacht, maybe a Buick or Pontiac or even a Mopar of the era, Daimler SP250, Lancia Fulvia.

Future Dreams: Dream car is an e-type, price has been creeping up just a little faster than my means to buy, also lust after BMW 3.0 CS and early 911s. Lots of stories of coulda woulda shoulda bought but seemed like a lot of money at the time, and quite a deal now in hindsight.

So many cars, so little time.
