Default Restore seat fabric ductility?

Bought this car with VERY VERY VERY nice seats, but they are hard and stiff to where I am sure they will crack soon..

What can be done to restore the seat material?
Any kind of magic chemistry product that brings them back to life?

I don’t know if they are real leather..
You think?

I looked at the car for like 10 minutes, bought it, and it will be delivered to my house Thursday..

In all reality I will most likely part this car unfortunately..
Slight chance I won’t..

If it's not missing anything major, why would you part it out? I'd only part out a car if it was (literally) wrapped around a telephone pole.

No title
No idea of engine internal condition yet (does not run, also needs foes)
I don’t need another car, I already have too many cars
I need parts
It has cool parts I’d rather have on my other cars
It has some valuable parts I don’t want
I don’t really want a 2.5 NA car

Slight possibility I won’t part it..

There are lots of leather restoration products out there. I use Color-Plus products. I find the big problem is the stitching gets rotten. Once it gives, it is hard to recover.

Check the options sticker behind the carpet above the spare tire well.

I couldn’t get in the hatch..
it only has keys for the replacement ignition switch, and I tried to turn it from the inside but it didn’t work easily..
I didn’t try very hard though because it is the electric mechanism and I don’t know how the electric ones work..
the sunroof is also electric..

And this is supposed to be an 85..
obviously at least 85.5 but electric hatch and electric sunroof and 3rd brake light on an 85.5?
And script door handles on an 85.5?
And removable nose panel?

And do these rear wheels even look early offset?
They are 15s..

idk.. It hasn’t been delivered to me yet..
Supposed to be tomorrow..

Could be leather with all those options..

I didn’t think much.. Just bought it almost immediately..

946 SEAT COVERS FRONT - LEATHER/LEATHER/LEATHERETTE

Ok this car is really nice the more I look at it..

And it's an 87 not 85.5..

Their is broken glass all over in the rear storage wells..
I'm betting this hatch was replaced with a factory new at some point..

Ok I'm really thinking about fixing up this car instead of parting it..
But dang, I need parts and not another car! UGH!

If you don't want to restore it, perhaps consider passing it on and getting a 944 "worthy" of parting out.

Yeah.. Well, when I ask that I get told "Nothing on these car are worth anything unless they are immaculate." - https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ssibility.html
So what constitutes "worthy"?
I've passed after looking at so many of these cars in various conditions..

Compression test will probably be the deciding factor..

Wanna see something else neat?

Even has the gloves..

May have missed it but did you figure out the seats? I had hard stiff black seats and read an article about Vaseline softens leather/vinyl again. So I took out the seats covered them in Vaseline and wrapped them in plastic wrap. I then left them out in the sun for a day and sure enough they were nice and soft again. After that I cleaned them and used leather conditioner for horse saddles to keep it soft.

Was this long enough ago that you would have noticed good/bad long term effects by now?

These are also quite a light color.. I should probably spot test this in an inconspicuous area..

If you find they are leather try this old trick. Remove them from the car and slather on “Vermont’s original Bag Balm” on the leather surfaces. You really can’t put on too much. Then put the seat in a large black garbage bag, seal it shut, and let it cook in the sun. Overnight is fine, but the key is to really cook the seat in the bag in the sun. You will be amazed how much of the balm get absorbed by the leather. Wipe off the excess with a dry rag. I can’t say it will work for everything, but it went a long way towards restoring my “crunchy” leather seats!

I pulled the seats and brought them inside..
I found Lexol cleaner and conditioner..

they cleaned up very nicely and the conditioner is working some but not as well as i I’d like.. Yet..
The conditioner seems to dry on the surface if let you sit for a long time all lathered up..

May still also try the bag balm/vasoline method in the sun also..
