That is a beastly amount of work and I am totally impressed.

Cheers

Hmmm, will you need to notch the spring plates?

I'm going to try and adjust the plates by loosening those 24mm nuts.

You've been doing such a fantastic job on this. It's truly entertaining to watch. Per my earlier comment, I just googled around and found this: https://www.tractionconcepts.com/Por.../tcxpocus1.htm

I'm wondering if something like this would work and is in reach for you. I'd hate to be stuck paying a $400 towing bill to get unstuck somewhere remote. (And I've been places here out west in my 4x4 where that towing cost would easily be exceeded if I made a simple mistake.)

Wow, interesting item. I'll definitely take a closer look at it.

As for adjusting the plates, no dice on alleviating the gap. At a loss for now...

So a resolution may have been found. I had a video conference this evening with a young engineer, who has vast knowledge/experience in lifting 924/944 cars in this country, and it appears that indexing these 30mm bars one spline might actually provide enough lift to balance out the front. The most assured way to find out is to reassemble the entire rear suspension, install the transaxle and wheels, and apply full load on the torsion bars.

Why do I feel like I'll be doing this a few times before it's right...?

On a positive note, I'm learning how to assemble, adjust and disassemble the rear suspension; a portion of the car that I have (had) limited knowledge. I admit that the anxiety of playing with this assembly is just about gone! I'll keep the pics/narrative coming...

Reassembly has begun... Torsion bar carrier and trailing arms installed.

Question for the group: Can someone confirm that these lock nuts get torqued to 180 Ft/lbs? Thanks and Happy Holidays to all!

Some more accomplished today... New wheel bearings and seals installed:

Parking brake re-installed with new spring kit:

Note to all interested in performing this job, please make sure that each brake shoe, compression spring hook catches on their respective boss; they're located on the back side of the backing plate. The entire brake assembly could become loose If these are not properly latched on, causing lots-O-problems.

Wheel shaft, hub and castle nut installed (280 +52 Ft/Lbs torque setting for the early cars). I never realized that my 3/4" torque wrench would be used often (after accomplishing this task on my 84 a while back) but I'm sure glad I invested in this tool. BTW: The hub securing bar is a tool of my own design, which permits torquing the castle nut without installing the wheel/tire, etc... Merry Christmas everyone!

I remember that neat nut-torquing bar you made. Earlier efforts repaying themselves. Great work.

Thanks John, I actually sold my last spare unit a few months back; I had a run of 10 made a couple years ago.
BTW: Would you please do me a favor and verify the torque setting on the above-mentioned 24mm nuts (eccentric and lock)? I spent a little time today looking around for that spec. Much appreciated!

Hi Rich,
I'll need at least 5 orders to keep the pricing down; they're about $100.00/ea.

Prodigious work, Patrick!!
You can add me to the list to get a run made; seems like $100 well spent.

Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself just to keep from crying... After spending a couple - three hours installing my transaxle on the "Beastie", I noticed this sitting next to my tools. I'm going to bed...
