ok,i guess its been like this every since ive owned the car(for about 6-8 months).the passenger side of my engine bay is REALLY hot,its so hot it cracks the paint off of my hood on the passenger side.so i sanded it down and primerd it black.a couple months later the primer starts cracking/chipping.something is seriously wrong and i cant find out what it is.after running the car,i let the car idle then shut it down.with the hood down,i goto feel my hood.the drivers side is cold and the passenger side is friggin hot!iono i might have an head problem, headgasket problem, exhaust leak or my water pump is malfunctioning.whenever i sit at a stoplight for like 20secs or longer my coolant temp rises all the way to red and stays there until i start moving again.so far ive tried flushing out the coolant system and refilling and venting.so far no good.what could it be?headgasket?retension timing belt?thermostat?exhaust leak?please help!im getting really worried if i run my car like this too long that ill blow something.thanx in adavnce

Right hand side ... Could be the headers.
Noticed that there is a heat shield on mine, perhaps yours is missing
Coolant temp : radiator, thermostat (the one with the F@@#&g snap ring) or air trapped inside would be my best guess.
You might want to try bleeding with the rear lifted high up, seems to work on some occasions.

I think Hans is talking about the heat shield on the headers, not the insulation on the hood. IMO, the insulation is there to dull the engine noise, not make the hood cool.

You may also consider fabricating a header shield that installs on the pipe right above the headers. I did mine last summer and I think it does help. Not sure about your thermostat/coolant issue tho....good luck.

Second thought: high coolant temp at low speed can also be radiator clogged on the outside: some years ago Higway Bugs started to use your radiator fins as "burial ground" and blocked the air transit by now.
To clean, try a hose pipe and spray from engine bay outwards. Might be required to remove the cooling fans to get into the corners.
That should remove the bulk.

well some good news and bad news.well my temp went significantly down when i flushed and vented out the coolant system but now im loosing coolant-that could be scary cause that would mean a headgasket-that would explain the passenger side getting really hot.
