That near-overheating is a bad problem and will screw you if you don't fix it. Headgasket leaks don't cause overheating until the coolant level gets too low. You have a cooling system problem. How's the water pump? Belt tension? No leaks? If you have a head gasket leak into the cooling system, it will pressurize the resevoir and make bubbles or overflow after you shut down. Have you noticed this?

Yah, I wouldn't run the car too much if there's excess heat - particularly localized in one area and not another (stress) they're aluminum after all. . .

If you still have the catalytic converter, it could be clogged and causing this problem as well.

Keith, exactly correct, gold star and go to the head of the class.

Your cat is dying, dont call the vet, you need to get to an exhaust shop. A significant heat increase on the pass side is from the exhaust gasses that are not getting out quickly enough. You probably also have LOTS of heat in the little bin under the radio. Right? Ask me how I know? BTW you will also have to replace the little gaskets from the headers to the down pipe. And then a few months later you will realize that there is STILL a small exhaust leak somewhere.

Also, when you think you are done, go ahead and replace the DME engine temp sender because it is shot and it is the root cause of your cat becoming clogged. It has been giving the DME an incorrect engine temp and causing the engine to run rich (which clogged your cat).

If you don't have a cat. (You cat killer, I'm calling PETA) The dme engine temp sender could still be the cause of your increased combustion/exhaust temperatures. Note: The car will run with this thing acting wiggy.

FI problems usually cause the cat to go bad=get rid of cat. Now you are still faced with underlying FI (Fuel Injection) problem. Think, what happens when the car is trying to "warm up" as in cold start. Full lean mix to increase combustion temp to warm up the engine.

OK, but you STILL have to find the CAUSE of the increased exhaust temp. This issue is totaly unrelated to coolant temp. Which you should also be worried about why that happened. BTW which, of your several, is this problem with?
