I checked the numbers on the rods, the first 3 are 944.103.101.3R ARST, the last is 944.103.110.0R ARST.

this is the #4 piston (the oddball) note location of wrist pin!

That pin would explain the scratch in the cylinder.

I can't belirve neither I nor the wrench saw this, I guess we were too busy looking at #3.

Speaking of #3, I pulled it too. same deal with the pin...

The scratch in the #3 cylinder is a little deeper than the one in #4.

I'm still thinking of rigging a balance beam. I'm also still wondering what pistons are in the current block if anyone can shed any light on that.

You know $1,000,000 weighs 20.5lbs in $100 bills, 102lbs in $20 bills, 408lbs in $5 bills, & 21 TONS in Quarters... This according to Nicholas Pillegis' Casino- that's how they count $ in Vegas casinos- they weigh it- they need forklift's to move the $ around in the count rooms it's so heavy- UNFU**INGREAL! Think about that the next time you see a movie w/people robbing banks & carrying out >5mil in a duffel bag- it's just not possible- think about it- even IF EVERY SINGLE bill were a $100 bill, it would weigh >100lbs....

Alright, enough with weighing money! I pulled the penny as the example of 5 grams as a wild guess, I was not intending to be literal. I figured it would make a point not start everyone weighing their wallets (sorry Dave). BTW a penny is 2.5g and so is a dime. A nickel is in fact 5 grams, I should have remember this as in another life I used to use it to weigh something else......

The latest pic of your motor is much a much better view of the pistons. They are std. low compression pistons used in the US from 83 to 87. I placed an 83 piston on our scale and the difference between it and an a piston from an 86 car is 2.8g. The other thing to remember is that depending on which pistons they are (Kolben-Schmidt or Mahle) there are two different length wrist pins as well. That would make a larger difference than the piston differential in weight.

Of course leaving out the circlips will affect the weight as well.... among other things..................

Ah hell Chris, you can't get out of it THAT easily- you're on RL now buddy- you're accountable for EVERY statement you make... A dime can't weigh EXACTLY what a penny weighs- you just need to get some of those expensive "letter" scales to get technical enough... try Triple Beam...

BTW- I really wish I had enough $$ to CHECK the weights I listed in my last reply- the time to do it would be nice too...

Hmmm...this could be the explanation for the seemingly inexplicable memory loss right here....

Dave, I am thinking this whole episode might put you in the running for a Cooper Cup award, which would be ironic, since John Anderson made the original "trophy" for Jim Cooper. lol We need to create an offshoot of the CC to recognize those folks that get worked over financially in their pursuit of excellence in 944's, but you have certainly shown that "never say die" attitude that got the Cooper Cup created in the first case.

Regards,

Some of you guys are tough! Alright you got me a dime is exactly 2.4g while the penny is 2.5g. I should have figured out by now that I can't just gloss over the facts with you guys! Triple beam is old school, we have a electronic scale that weighs in tenth of a gram or thousandth of an ounce, so I guess I really have no excuse......as usual.

Hell, that's about only HALF of it- he was ALSO using some of the stuff I've been referring too when speaking of using various postal scales- more than likely a mixture of the more expensive "letters" AND some of the more socially acceptable kind, PLUS, a few things that never really needed to be weighed anyway, although some of hte Grateful Dead types who helped in the making of them might have used certain TECHNICAL scales (like TB) to weigh the things they used to make it WITH- let's see, IIRC, one of the ones I'm speaking of would be: C20 H22 N3 O

Anyone?

You know, what's scary is, some of the references I've heard made towards JA over the years, really DO make it sound like he's used a few too many things in his pursuit of happiness & THIS WOULD HELP explain some of the things we've seen, IF true- actually, I THINK I would have a little more compassion for him IF it WERE ture, as I think that some of the things going on in Dave's engine (& other's I've heard of) border on CRIMINAL otherwise....

Robby, try gold bars for your bank heist! I visited a gold-mine once and they had one on display. They even made a bet that if you could pick it off the table with one hand, you can keep it. No one was able to pick it up. One chic even thought that it was glued to the table! Turned out it weighed 88-lbs! Try stacking just 5 of them on a cart, and it's be darn tough to push around; much less carrying around a duffle bag of those things! In fact , just 5 of them would weigh more than the 944's assembled engine Actually a stack that's 6x6 would weigh more than the entire car! I guess the stuff they use in the movies is spray-painted styrofoam or something.
