Default Anyone Have Fabspeed's Cold Air Intake System?

I was just wondering if anyone runs this system? I like the fact it removes the big stock air box, but $245 for just 3 filter? Does that seem high to you guys.

I have the big one. It's a BMC filter. The other two can be had at any auto parts store for $10 each. You might try contacting BMC to see what the part number is and getting it from them or a dealer besides Fabspeed.

Stephen at Imagine has the kit. You need the other filters to keep the tank oil from potentially overflowing.

What is the main advantage of fabspeeds system against the stock? Other than the space saving element. More HP?
Thanks

Being that this factory Vs. after-market airbox question comes up every other week, maybe we could get the mods to make a sticky for us ...

Having said that, I'd like to know what the BMC part number is too, but according to the Fabspeed website:
Developed and sold exclusively by Fabspeed Motorsports. Manufactured under license by BMC Italy...
Beyond a less cluttered engine compartment and a cool sucking sound, I'm not sure if there are any real hp gains. I'm thinking about it because I work on my car...A LOT! So it's nice to have easy access to things.

Some other links that I had saved over the years:

In the end, I'll probably just go with the el cheapo rig from Autozone...part number 4780 (Spectre 6.375" round air cleaner assembly):

I've used it, can't tell any real difference in it and the stock box with a K&N.

There is a different sound and you can work on the car easier. That's the list IMO...

Here is an OEM box that I modded. The nice thing is that the oil breather hoses still go to their old locations on the upper part. I used the large piece of the cutoff part to make the end piece. I agree that no one seems to claim any HP gain but it is a lot easier to work around.

I bought mine used. Otherwise I was looking at all the air cleaner mfgs to see what they had that fit.

Sure makes it easier to work on the engine. Other than that, ....

Well fellas, the deed is done: factory airbox has been removed and safely stored away! For some reason, I toiled over this decision from the first week I brought the car home! It is bulky, and heavy, and metal, and yada yada blah blah, but in the end, I think Porsche knew what they were doing in it's overall design...I just got sick of having to remove it (after my intercooler) every time I needed to reach something.

Just so that we're clear I installed the "El Cheapo" air cleaner for one reason, and one reason alone: the ease of access to my WUR and Electromotive coils (that sit on the shock tower brace). And let me tell you, the access is AWESOME!!! Keep in mind that I also have my AC removed.

I did have to notch the top and bottom of the air cleaner housing to clear the AFR adjustment screw, as well as drill two holes in the top, but it was straight forward.

I notice abosultely no change in HP and the noise is pretty cool on a hard run.

I'd take some pictures for you, but first I need to cleanup some ugly wiring that was once covered by the factory airbox.

I also purchased and installed a small breather for the oil vent hose that was attached to the old box.

I received and installed the filter today. I have two questions, What do I do with the small hose that comes off of the WUR? And I can't seem to get the smaller filter to go on the bottom hose (see picture below) that cames off the stock air box, the filter is the same size as the hose.

Yep, I did exactly the same thing...bought a used stock air box for $40 and modified it to accomodate a K&N filter. Looks and performs just as the Fabspeed, but at a fraction of the cost and keeps all the original hoses intact.
Space saving and cool sucking noises is really all it accomplishes. But one could always imagine "seat of the pants" power gains.

I'm just curious: since you started with a "used stock air box", how did you end up with a result that *LOOKS* like the Fabspeed? I've seen most of the mods done to the stock air box and though an improvement, access to certain parts on top pf the engine is still limited (the WUR for example).

Does yours resemble this:
