My beautiful aircooled beast's high beam won't work. When I click it on, all the lights turn off. There is no problem w the low beam. My shop guy says it'll cost $400 to fix it--- however, I think I can do it myself.
I did s complete rebuild thread on the switch.
Think the pics got deleted
As mentioned , without relays the switch carries the full headlight current and can melt.
Well it would help to know the particular car that you have. My '86 has a headlight relay in the front fuse box. That would be my first attempted fix. Check fuses while you are there.
Did your "shop guy" do any diagnostics to determine what was wrong that would cost $400? If not, make a note to change mechanics.
I remember that thread. It was amazing to me, because I always replace the whole switch, which ain't exactly cheap. I might even have an old one lying around.
Be careful when taking the switch out. Easier if you remove the headlight switch and ignition electrical half. Be careful that you don't break any plastic parts. Buy a large snap ring pliers to use as a spanner on the headlight retaining collar.
