Great work! What are your plans to finish and protect the back side of the rear quarter panel where it was welded? That area is very high in the wheel well and difficult to access...=...easy for rust to form. I'm doing the same thing on a 67S so I'm curious to hear your plans.
Thanks for the photo tutorial!

In the end we decided that we could do the floorpan repairs on the ramp rather than the spit. Lots of holes and general crush damage to sort out - as to be expected from a 40 year old ex-rally car.
One of the items that requires attention are the rear anti-roll bar brackets, in particular the left hand one which has been badly deformed. Since it is likely that the car will be driven in a "spirited" manner (no offence, Dave!) we will replace both brackets with the later design which has a reinforcement plate added on the inside face. First job was to remove the underseal with a zip wheel so that we could drill out the spot welds, however on the left hand side the fuel pump support has to first be removed to give access to the ARB bracket.

We have a slot booked for the shell E-coating on the 7th of January. For ease of transport and protection from handling with fork-lift trucks we mount the shell on a frame. On the 964 and 993 we mount the frame onto the jacking points, but with no such luxury on a 72 911 Owen has adapted one of our frames to bolt onto the suspension and rack mounts.

Having owned a 72 E Targa for 15 years as my DD. I'll keep tabs here. I think original as much as possible, however I would try for an 2.7 RS spec engine. The extra 25 HP make a huge difference in these cars. PLUS, they do not alter the cosmetic originality one iota. The engine would take 2.7 RS pistons! A modification to flow to the mechanical injection and you have a 215 HP car rather than 190.

Final Job for Owen: weld on two new rear ARB brackets and fabricate an additional central reinforcement to eliminate flex-cracking in future.
So that's it, all done and dusted until January 7th 2013 when it is off on the trailer to Surface Processing. See you all then.

2.7 RS MFI is the way to go, it really makes a good car great. No outside modifications that can be seen. Original Mahles are still available use the super tech studs and prepare the block by shuffle pinning and other known improvements. e.g. oil pump

I've decided !
Phoned Colin today and told him it is going to be ST Spec. Note to Colin you can use this as evidence should I change my mind ie this is my IRREVOCABLE decision. You read it on the Internet so it must be true!
I agonised long over this, and realise that it's going to devalue the car as an investment but so be it. I want to keep this car.
