The Robin Meister marches on, finishing the door trim panels & covering the repaired door top trims with matching vinyl.
Before anybody mentions it we know that we have used a 964RS door release pulls rather than the "period" 2.7RS leather straps. This is simply because we've used a couple of pre-made panels that we had available, rather than the old 1974 versions which came with the car. We actually prefer ours but they can always be changed later on I suppose.

Dave,
Came across this site recently and have been following it with great interest the quality of the workmanship is superb.
We did a number of events in the early 90's in ZT 911 and if memory serves me correct we narrowly missed a win on The 92 West Cork Historic Rally.(photo attached)
Unfortunately due to a timing error at the control before the last stage we were demoted to second at the finish after a great dice with Max Harvey and Roy Lane, either way it was always going to be the navigators fault !
Hope the remainder of the restoration goes well and look forward to seeing the finished product in Cork in the not too distant future. I

Sorry that this update has been a while, unfortunately I've been up to my ears trying to organise our forthcoming move of premises, source new equipment & help Marc to make the necessary alterations to the building. Fortunately Robin soldiered on and the result is that we are now very nearly there.
The lights took a lot longer than they should. We managed to rustle up a pair of original rear light housings which Robin restored. New wiring looms from Porsche had the lights illuminated, but since the early 911 ones not available we ordered 3.2 Carrera versions and modified them by removing the number plate connections. New headlights and replica front side lights with new horn grilles that Dave sourced in Germany sorted out the front end.

Next on the list were the oil cooler and under shield to protect the rare and expensive to replace plastic fuel tank.
Perfect replica oil coolers are available from Germany so that solved the first problem, albeit with a little bit of tweeking to get it to fit correctly.
Robin made a steel front support for the aluminium shield, fixing the back end to the factory front cross member cover.

Wheels came next. We did a deal with the odd set of Fuchs, exchanging the 4.5" & 5.5" for two shallow 6" to match the ones we had. All four wheels were then polished, anodised and satin painted.
The tyres were organised by Dave, suitably period looking with reasonably soft compound for reputedly excellent performance. I'm not going to dwell on wondering why only 3 tyres arrived......

Robin finished off the fitting of the fuel tank shield. It's probably not the sump guard that Dave would expect for a rally car but it will definitely do its job to protect the tank from accidental scraping on the marvellous roads of Southern Ireland.

Masked off for the final polishing of the outer panels, then onto the four post lift for wheel alignment. All green for the alignment aside from a fraction too much negative camber on the front left wheel, no doubt due to the difference between the new right Bilstein leg and the old original left one. The discrepancy was not enough to be a concern though, so good to go.

The GRP rear bumper had to be practically re-made to fit. We should have really bought a better LWB version rather than pouring the hours into this one, but in the end it looked fine with duel cut outs for the silencer. I dare say Dave will find a stock silencer to fit for touring, so at that point we'll paint up a factory steel bumper instead.
At the front end we did manage to rescue the original factory steel bumper. OK, in this case we had to blast off the paint, and surface rust, repair a small corrosion hole, panel beat out the dents then fill & paint the bumper to a decent finish. Looks nice and fits reasonably well.

Seat fitted on temporary fixed brackets (does anyone have any spare early 911 seat runners for the S tilt frames?), number plates fitted, batteries fitted and charged, instruments in the dash. All of a sudden, we're pretty much done.

With owner Dave agreeing to sort out the missing parts for the seats and gently run the engine in, before we knew it, the car was test driven around the block, reversed on to the trailer, strapped down by Rob and Barry (Dave's brother) and out of the door for it's gentle trip back home to County Cork. From bent rally car to perfect 2.4S, it's been one heck of a journey, almost as wild a ride as the incident that kicked it all off 14 years ago.
So that's it, we're done. The last ever project car to ever drive out of Ninemeister's Bank Quay premises (all future builds will be leaving from our new Customer Service Centre in nearby Woolston).
We're already missing it. :-(
